Hey guys, i new and i have a quick questions to ask you. I have the chance to buy a 1996 Eclipse RS with a broken clutch. Ruffly how much would i be looking at buying it for? theres really no price or phone number just the words "FOR SALE". My uncle tells me that the seller thinks the transmission is blown but he took the boot off and knows its just the clutch. The car has a minor scrape on the driver side fender and has 115k miles on the engine. Is it worth buying and if so how much would i be looking at getting this? My uncle said probably 2,000 but he was never told exactly on the price.

if youre going to spend 2,000 on a car, i would get a 1g awd, you will be glad you did

If your uncle is credible enough to trust that it's JUST the clutch, then i would go ahead and pick it up if that's what you really want. But as stated above, i can almost guarantee that you would be much much happier with a 1g awd.

yea my uncle is credible enough. He said that he took the tranny apart and just say parts of the clutch in it. Now i'm not to mechanically inclined but he hasnt been wrong with any of my family members cars before. 1g AWD eclipses are better then 2G? I know this is a n00b question but will AWD be better in the snow then FWD. Because i know that RWD is crappy in the snow. Just asking because this has to drive me 45mins to and from college in the winter.

1. 1G AWD cars are within your price range, not better, just a little cheaper.

2. AWD is much much better than FWD in the snow.

3. GET A 1G AWD if you have 2,000 you will thank yourself every time you boost in the snow, :laugh:

Well 1g's aren't better than 2g but we were saying 1g because of the price. For the $2000 you would spend on that car (+ whatever repair costs) you should be able to find a running 1g.

As far as awd being better in the snow i am torn between the two. I have owned both and my fwd wasn't that bad in the snow and of course in some situations wouldn't be able to move. With my awd it would move no matter what but IMO was scarier to drive.

I cant speak on 2g's but i have had both 1g FWD and AWD and the AWD is better in the snow (winter) and for launching. i hear a lot of FWD people have wheelhop problems when they start making power.

check out www.dsm.org for lots of info on both 1g's and 2g's as i have read for countless hours and learned a ton.
