How's it going guys?

So two days ago I finally bought myself a 97 Spyder GST.

I got this car for $1000 and the guy threw in some Eibach sportline springs that had never been installed. The guy also said he had got the top end rebuilt 20k ago, installed 1g bov, new exhaust manifold, mishimoto radiator, and 16g turbo.

The only downside for me is that it has an auto transmission.

So what I want to do is swap the engine into my 98 spyder gs.

My only question is, will the transmission off of my spyder gs hold up with the
4g63 engine. I know they will bolt up, but will it be safe and will it break or be fine?

So do you guys thing for $1k this car was a good deal or no?

Thanks for your time everyone.

Yes, the GS trans will hold the power of a stock 4g63t. I can answer this correctly because I found out my GST Spyder has a GS Spyder trans. I had to research numbers to find this out. My car does have the 5m31 manual trans that only came in the GS. I was gonna look for a 5m33 for it, but decided not to worry since I need to find the AWD trans anyway. It drives ok with the GS trans, and the only issuees I have with it, is that 1st grinds when I down shift to it, and for some reason it has a retrofit throwout bearing. Beyond that, its completely fine. However, I have heard/read that it isn't as strong as the 5m33, so you can use it for normal abuse, but if you plan to do a lot of upgrades, get the right one. ;) Hope you find one.

Awesome Im glad to hear someon else has a gs transmission on a 4g63. Not looking for insane power right now. Just something fun to drive and beat on some civics around my area. Im glad I dont have to invest in a new transmission just yet. I excited for this. Should I document my whole process?

First thing's first though, I have to get an engine hoist =/

If you're talking about doing a build journal for documenting, hell yeah. I'm sure other would like to see, and I'm always reading build journals for other spyders. For what you just said, the GS trans will be just fine :thumb:

Ok ill definitely make a journal then. Do you know if the current automatic transmission in my GST will work fine with my 4g64 so I can sell the gst shell with the 4g64 as a complete car? And how would the person go about registration and insurance if the car is supposedly a turbo car, but no longer has turbo?

Look at those nice solid strut towers.

I used to have one that color combo, but not turbo.
