You are bypassing the stock wiring completely.

When you do the typical fuel pump rewire your not completely bypassing the stock wiring. You are using the original fuel pump wiring to activate another relay to supply power to your pump directly from the battery. If there is a short then you need to make an effort to find it because that can still cause the fuse for the oe pump circuit to blow even though you did a rewire.
