Hey guys, check out my door panel. Thanks to Injected for his idea on tan/black door scheme, I manage to paint mine only the driver side for today. Can't wait to slap her back in first thing tomorrow morning and continue with the other side. Living in an university housing without a garage makes me to be patient since it is not that sunny during spring break :(

id have to say very nice on the job approx. how long did it take you

Yeah it looks good, what kind of paint did you use, and did you put any thing on it to protect it from chipping off?

it took me the whole day since the its not that sunny. most of the time i spent was preparing it for paint. took off everything, sand and wash with detergent soap ans masking everything up. sprayed using Dupli color paint for vinyl and fabric flat black. the hard part was after the paint dries and removing the masking tape which i chip out some paint near the edges. i might be more carefull when it comes to the passenger side which i'll do tomorrow morning. i would say to spray that thing with clear, but i painted the interior pieces without clear and i say it turns out ok. just be careful not to be very hard on them. Handle with care i would say.

I agree, it looks good, but I dont know what it looked like before!!! ;)

Ya know i was going to do it the same way, except the removable parts (center upper, and lower of the door) were going to be black, and i was goign to cover them with vynal instead of painting it. Looks good. lost installed.

Yeah whenever you remove tape from a painted part, even autobody panels, remove it with the paint still a little tacky. That will help the edge bleed down (to prevent a hard ridge) and since the paint is still technically a little wet, it will not crack or chip.

I should have read ^^ before i attempt to remove my maskings. the same happen today where i chipped a little paint, much less than yesterday thou. what i did is that i traced the edges with razor knife and carefully peel the masking off. I'm done with the passenger side and now waiting for the silicon adhesive to dry in which I used them to stick back my speaker grill. I'll try to put it back in by today and have some pics upload. and BTW, before the door was tan, except the center part where the a/c vent and door and window switch.

I am getting ready to redo the interior in my 1G, going from grey/black to black with white trim parts.

But yeah alot of people do not know what I posted earlier untill it is too late. I once had a shop paint one of my cars and I had them to rally stripes (92 Camaro). The edges on the stripes looked horrible, I mean HORRIBLE. I told them to either sand and repaint the entire car correctly, or they are not going to get a single dime from me.
They redid the car. And I made sure to stick around and watch them when they did. I also got it for half price ;) :shhh:

I'm done with both of my door panel. i would say that i'm very satisfied with it however, they might be some place for improvement next time i'm doing it. the first pic was when the panel is ready for paint and the second one was the driver side i installed. hope you guys like it since i know that i'm liking it. ;)
and by the way, my next project it to change the headliner to black and maybe dye the seats to be also in tan/black scheme.

i know, it just that i dont want to force it, break stuff and try to stick it back. so i would rather cover it than spending my time for the adhesive to dry.

Wow, That looks great man I never thought I'd like any painted interior but youve changed that! Also are those Motegi MR7s on the car?

thank you so much. i just wipe my car and the rims off since its not going to rain for some days here in west lafayette. if you guys see it, i also change my trunk carpet to black using some cheap walmart carpet. it looks much better than it was before.

just curious why you sanded the parts.. after looking at your pics i went to wally world and got the paint u were talking about.. i have a 96 gst so everything is grey.. i started at 11 and finished around 2:30 i did all the plastic in the hatch area and one of the rear panels .. also had my old passenger seat out so i said the hell with it.. it came out looking pretty good im pround of myself usally i tend to #### stuff up when i do it on my own.

1 more thing do you just paint it till its all black or do you need to put it on kinda heavy

ermm, i guess sanding parts helps to hold the paint more than without sanding it. everywhere i read about painting not only here and even the back off the can instructed us to sanding. if it looks nice to you, congrats. i personally became lazy when try to paint the gauge, painting without sanding and the paint seems not to hold very good. its like pouring water paint, dripping everywhere.

owh and by the way, do you mind taking the picture of your painted seats? i'm thinking off doing mine but i have no spare seat for experimenting. i used a whole can for a panel.

I'll see if my dad will let me borrow his camera.. its rainy here so no painting today.. yea i didnt sand but everything came out looking really well..my mom came in and asked if i spent money on interior crap... looks oem.. seat looks really good i think.. i didnt start out with the ugly animal print cloth seats though.. :thumb:

here is the pic i took from the right angle this morning. hope you'll get some pics uploaded about the seats.
