Alright, so I decided to buy an SAFC since it would be cheaper than the E-manage set up I was thinking of getting. So... Waiting now for it to arrive so I can have some fun. Within the next few weeks I will be ordering a new fuel rail and 880CC injectors to play around with...

BUT until then, I want to find out what the stock 450s can do. I'm thinking of tuning the 450s on 16PSI once my SAFC gets here. My current setup is a 255 fuel pump (might switch it to the stock one just to test out how much HP the stock fuel system can deliver), a front mount, 264 cams and a 16G turbo. My goal right now for this setup is 235-250HP, which should be doable. I will get everything set up, street tune it and hopefully get it to a dyno before ordering the new injectors/rail since I will more than likely have the itch to install them right away if they get here before I can dyno.

Anyone ever tune with the stock fuel system?

You don't need to get an aftermarket fuel rail. The stock one is good for over 500 HP and you will need a chip to with your AFC.

Ty for the fuel rail suggestion.

I'm not looking to make over 350-400hp since the car I'm working on now is my daily. Also, why would I need a chip?

Your going to run 880's on an SAFC? Not a good idea. Thats to much maf compensation (unless e85 is going to be used) for the ECU and its going to cause to much timing advance and make tuning impossible. You better think about some timing control if you want to be safe.

750cc MAX on the SAFC. The bigger the injector the harder it is to get a good tune. Aftermarket rails are really not much bigger ID than the stock rail.

Being that you have a 95, you should see if you have an EPROM ECU. If you do, you should look into ECMLink or ECMLink Lite (cheaper because it has fewer features).

Yeah, my goals for this car aren't too high, at most 400HP, so 750s it is LOL. Its just my daily, I wanna have some fun with it though.

Within reason for tuning and not seeing too much timing and blowing up. I ran rre 660s on an safc2 and worked perfect. Some have done 750's but like stated above, without timing control you better be conservative just to be safe. You might notice that the bigger injectors will flow different at different rpms cause you are not changing latency values like a chip would. BTW I was only able to see like 16psi with stock injectors, 255, boltons, afc, e316g.

Yeah, I wont run anything too high up there. Nice to see input from people who have been there, makes me feel better about not blowing something up.

Also, anyone know if there is some sort of logger for a 2G dsm? Been trying to find one but no luck.

It's called ECMLink since you already have a 95 ECU. I may be mistaken but there is also EVO Scan but I think you need the 98/99 flashable ECU to run that? Those are your cheapest options buddy.

I got the AFC for almost nothing, I do agree its not the best tuning tool, but as I stated I was going for something cheap.

Well even though tuning with an AFC is playing with fire tricking out the ECU I don't deny the fact that it can get things done. Back then I made high 400 with an AFC on 950cc injectors.

Yeah, people tend to knock on them a lot LOL. I don't think they get the point that even if I get DSM link, I'm not going to use it to its full potential. There's also people running 11s on SAFCs.

Im glad I started with an SAFC. It really allowed me grasp the concept of tuning before I jumped into something more advanced like dsmlink. Its cheap and can be sold for about the same you buy them at so it will be a good learning tool.

Yeah, I've had SAFCs on 2 of my old cars and I currently have DSMlink on my GSX. DSMlink has so many features that sometimes it gets a little confusing, but I have a few friends that know how to use it extremely well and they've been teaching me what I don't know.

Well I'm using the keydiver & afc combo. PPL have been using this setup for like 7yrs now. But there is a reason its been around so long. Its SIMPLE & EFFECTIVE....plain and simple. I'm not gonna get in full detail because this has been discussed a million times. Just look at the 16g timeslips in the members section. Plenty of 12 second timeslips using a chip and afc. Not to mention plenty of fast vr4 guys use this also. It would be perfect for your dd setup. After I fix this boost leak I'm gonna get a dyno/tune and post the results.

I looked up the Keydriver chips and they look pretty interesting, I may get one depending on what injectors I decide to run.

Yes I'm one of them... there are hundreds of people who have done it. The SAFC is great for what it is. Don't let people talk you out of it. It will teach you to tune and allow you to knock down the basic idea and concepts behind making these cars go fast.

The SAFC/2G MAF certianly has its limitations but don't underestimate them! My car has gone 126mph and low 11s with this basic setup and 650cc injectors.

On a side note... i've gone mid 12s long ago with stock 450cc injectors, increased fuel pressure, and race gas... No blown engine parts....but that was LONG ago and is NOT advised!

happy tuning!
