Hey everyone....well i was checking my messages on here earlier today (just like i do everyday) and i had a message from a lady that wanted to put pictures of the interior of my car on their tv show...heres the actual message i got on here:

I work for a cable company producing a show called Tricked Out. We are doing a program on a Mitsubishi Eclipse and need to show photos of other people's interior paint jobs to show the options available. Would you like your car to be on the show? I just need one or two photos and for you to sign a release form. Let me know if you are interested via email please.

when i read this i thought well hell yeah i want pictures of my car on tv...but i got to thinking...is this for real or just a joke or just a scam...well thats why im asking you all....do you think this is a scam or for real? the tv show is real. I emailed her a couple of times and she emailed me back with a material release form (just stating that i give them permission to use my pics and so forth). It asked for me to provide my phone number, name of course, signature, and address along with what material I am giving them permission to. I looked up her company which is a real company although her email address domain was SLIGHTLY different. The name of the company is Scripps Productions. Now I have a fax number but no phone number for the company. When she emailed me the release form there was no letterhead on it at all nor any contact information. I am planning to call the number I did found online and see if she actually does work there. She mentioned that this show wouldnt air until sometime in 2006 (she didnt know the actual air date) So what do guys think...scam or no? also has this person contacted anyone else on here?

Thats a good question. I mean, they really cant do anything with your photos but your signature is pretty important. But on the other hand, what would they do with your signature? I dont know, I would do some more research before I signed anything. Find out if this company has used any photos of anyother peoples cars and see what they did with them. brian

It'd be best you not contact the lady anymore until you have contacted the station and the producers of the show directly. Then, they can either vouch for this woman or not.

true true.

but, on another note, if your carpet and seats were black, or black and blue, your interior would be sick.

No such show turns up on Google. Maybe they're creating a "steal this stuff" catalog for thieves.

I would have thought that if i never saw the show before (the only things i ever saw was on the web where they showed people how to create diamond plated floor mats for an eclipse and lambo door install and such) heres the link to the shows site.

so it is a real show...ive seen it before...but the issue now is...does this lady really work there.

If I were soliciting photos for a show, I would disclose what cable company I worked for. You don't want to just send out your signature to anyone, it can be used on false documents and traced back to you.

This is how alot of scammers get you. They register a domain name as close to the real name as possible, so you trust it. Try comparing the real site and the provided site to see what differences there are. There have been many scams with eBay in this regard, where a scammer will copy an eBay page exactly so you provide them with your eBay payment information, including your credit card number.

Also, I would be sure to leave several forms of contact information if I was soliciting, and a phone number would be the first.

This is just my opinion, so do as you please.

well thank you all for the thoughts....i have a number of this so called company she works for and I am going to call it on monday and ask them if she works there or has any affiliation with the company at all. then if she works there and I can actually speak to her then and they verify over the phone everything that she is saying to me then I will be more reluctant to sign it.

yea , dont sign shit just yet..........wait to you speak to someone, then make sure that production company IS affilaited with that show.

update: called the place that the lady said she was from...well she didnt say she was from there but her email address ended in scrippsprod.com so I looked up scripps productions and found the main telephone number and called it today and I asked for her and she actually does work there. They transferred me to her voicemail...but this is a sign that she actually does work there. I will try again a little later.

You could always sign the doc with a signature that looks nothing like your real one. Then what are they going to do with it?

true true...a couple of other things it asks for ..my name printed out of course, address and telephone number...guess i could use my old phone number and address...

I think I recall actually watching a show like that on the DIY cable channel. But I don't want you to think that it is ok to go off getting screwed over for trusting me. But seriously, I think I've seen this show before. :dsm:

there really is a show on there....i have yet to talk to the lady but before i sign anything I will talk to them personally...trust me i dont wanna be screwed over either...

Tricked out + options based on painted interior pieces and light up pedals = another show for all the ricers in the world.

nothing against your car, if thats what you wanna do then thats up to you, i just like the stock look personally.

There is a show on satellite TV called Tricked Out it's on the DIY channel. But they usually show the guy doing the work to the car on the show and then they tell you the price and how easy it is to do yourself. I wonder how many people have screwed up the cars trying to do something they didn't have the knowledge or resources to do. I would still be weary of signing until I had confirmation of what they wanted to use the pictured for and I would also have lawyer look at the email most give free consultation the first time.

.

Same with paypal. There have been so many sites that look like the paypal site but the address is slightly different...like paypals. Usually you get caught in them through real looking email links.

Hope whatever happens you dont get screwed over. Keep us posted

Well it has been over a month since I got the initial email. The lady had sent me another email a few weeks ago telling me that it is close to being time to put the stuff together for the show and she needed my pictures of the interior of my car. So I said what the hell and sent them to her. Note this: These are just pictures of the interior of my car. No outside pictures, no pictures of my license plate, nothing giving any evidence of where I am or where the car is. I asked her if she still wanted me to sign the damn papers and she didnt reply. So that means that she doesnt have my address my signature of anything...just pictures of the interior of my car...which to anyone not knowing its my car, it could be any car in the world. So....if she uses my pictures in the show...she does...if not...oh well, no biggie. Would be nice to see them on the show but seeing how I dont have cable at home I wouldnt be able to watch it anyways. So, if/when she emails me back about the show and my pictures I will post an update on here so maybe you guys with cable could watch it and look out for my pics. I will keep you all posted though.
