My car is running but when it starts it idles a little rough

My car is running but when it starts it idles a little rough. When I'm driving my car is fine when i come to a stop light or have to stop it idles a little weird, and my car feels like it is shaking. ANY HELP WILL BE APPRECIATED. THANKS

Hi - My recently deceased GS did that too. She had about 70K miles on stock everything except for the exhaust intake.

first things first is it only doing the shake when on idle? or does it do it any other time? Because there are several things you could check for.

Things like:
- Spark Plugs
- Spark Plug/wires
- Exhaust (if its not falling apart due to rust or just going bad)
- Type of gas you are running? (sometimes when you use the wrong type gas it does that)

I checked your profile - and are you recirculating you BOV or are you Venting to atmosphere? maybe there is a leak there?

those are just a few suggestions I had - someone else might pin it for you

IS your base idle set too low? This can cause a shake, otherwise theres a batch of things that control idle.

It is idling at about 600, then it will drop to 400, go back and forth and make my car shake, it isn't a really bad shaking though its more like a rumble i just don't want it to lead to anything else. YES i do recirculate my BOV. Not only the idling that freaks me out its the shaking and sometimes it seems like it is knocking or something a little bit

MY car had the same problem...i took out the timing light and tadaaa...it was the timing...check your timing, that could be it

I fixed my profile!! It is a 95 GST. So how would I go about the changing the timing????

When you're driving it around, does it run ok? When you are stopped, you said the idle jumps around from 400-600. Does it run ok if you're stopped but you have it revving higher? Mine did this and it was a boost leak by the intake.

Start with all the suggestions many here have given you. Narrow it down one at a time. Most procedure to check theses things can be found on www.vfaq.com Good luck.

not sure if you have figured it out yet, but the egr valve can get carbon build up and stick. that would cause it to run fine under normal circumstances but it would idle a little rough. i would also check all the vacuum lines.

Im pretty sure in 4 and a half years....they figured it out. If only we had people who finished their own threads.

My girlfreinds car does something like this. Under WOT it runs great. Cold start and idle will suck. You have to give it gas or else it will die. It looks to have a stock AFPR and its built. It ran 11.1, but some guys purposely messed with it because they sold it to her for so cheap to anger her. Ill change wires but when it dies, it WAFTS of fuel. I think its getting too much at idle.

400 k is pretty low for a normal idle. it's probably just stall and wants to die and made the car shakes. idk. but check your isc or egr valves from the throttle body. could be a leak somewhere.
