Car starts when it wants to

I have a problem with starting my car sometimes. Sometimes when I ry to start my car I hear a click but the engine doesn't turn over at all. Sometimes I have to try 2 or 3 times before the engine will turn over and start. My ground wires are bolted on firm and the negative terminal and also the postive. Can anyone help me?

Sounds like you need to replace your starter.

If your car is manual and everything seems bolted there is a good possibility the stupid plastic thingy for your clutch ( anti theft crap ) is broke.. Its kind of hard to explain but basically when you push the clutch in there is a place the pedal pushes against to activate a link to the starter these are known togo and in most cases they can be removed and placed with a nut and bolt .. LEARN how to jump your starter with a screw driver it will save you alot of pain in agony if the plastic thingy does go and starting your car seems hopeless..

I'll try to replace the starter relay first because its cheaper but if not I'll do the starter. The battery is brand new. Who every had the car before me replaced that plastic thing already. Thanks guys.

This isn't a GM or Ford. Since on DSM's the starter is behind and under the intake manifold and the starter relay is behind the radio, I think jump starting it with a screwdriver would be quite a challege.

Ok guys I changed the battery to an OPTIMA Red top 2 days ago. Ever since it was working fine. THe car stareted up nice, until tonight. The problem came back. Now I'm wondering why did the battery have an effect on it until now. Any suggestions please? Thanks.
