MY A/T Is not working

Alright I have read a lot of the threads but no one seems to have the same problem as me.....

I have heard of limp mode (Reverse and third) but I don't have reverse. I bought the 95 TSi FWD with a spun bearing so I never drove it. I asked a specialty shop awhile back and the guy had no clue. So here is the history.

The car sat for 1.5 years before I bought it. It then sat for another 5-6 months while I totally rebuilt the engine. When I first started it up you can imagne my grin It started without cranking for 5 min. and it just pured. So it was time..... I put the car in reverse to move it for the first time and blam-o. The Check Engine Light came on. and you guessed it no reverse. So I then put the car in Drive and it moved. SO... Screw it I had Dad and Friends push me into the street....... and put it back into drive. Then I was off (slowly). I then realized that I only had second or third gear. So I drove the car around enough to let it heat-up and use its functions to make sure of all the problems. Just one

So if anyone has any suggestion I would be very grateful.

This may sound stupid and maybe you all ready tried this... but did you check the adjustment of the shift cable. There is a ear with a hole in it on the shift bracket that lines up into a hole in the trans once those are lined up that is netural. I once had it lined up wrong and all things were messed. Just an Idea... as far as the limp mode thats what I am fighting right now best thing to get the codes read and post them back here.
