Hey everyone,

I finally got my DSM last night. I picked it up for 2000. The previous owner went crazy with red spray paint so thats my first project.

It's been idling pretty rough but look like all the hoses are dry rotted pretty bad. Any ideas where to grab some new ones?

Last there is a mysterious connector by the fuse box on the BOV side that I can't see where it goes.

Let me know what you think!

Not sure where this connector plugs into....

Been a long wait to get a DSM but it's here and I can't wait to get started working on it. Any input is appreciated :D

That connector by the side of the BOV is the stock BSC. you dont need it cause I see you already have a MBC. just leave it hangin or secure it.

The ride still looks good but just needs that black top and the door moldings.

Nice find :thumb: Looks pretty good. I'd start by taking that ugly wire mesh out of the grill, painting the red trim pieces black, removing the rest of that aircan, getting an upper timing cover, and doing the rest of the free mods. That connector went to the boost solenoid which was removed for the manual boost controller.

nice but yea go to autozone or advance auto zone and get some new hoses. i had a few hoses bust on me after i bought my car so i replaced every hose that car had. and got all new clamps too. i would also try to get a intake pipe instead of that stock one.

go to a parts store for the hoses like the previous post says, but unless you can find a set of GOOD used intake hoses your only option is metal piping from the IC up as mitsu discontinued them

hope you don't hate me for this... but you got a good deal

It was a good deal. The guy I bought it from was super cool. We had to work on some title issues cause it wasn't registered. Also we worked out to have it shipped San Antonio because it's never been registered so it doesn't have license plates.

The rice removal is currently under way LoL. My weapon of choice is a wire wheel connected to a cordless drill! It's got a few things wrong with it. It had coolant leaking from a small hose feeding the turbo. Fixed that already. That green electrical wire going to the throttle body is broken so I need to fix that. The shifter has no bushings under the knob so it's flopping around pretty bad. Looks like an ebay short shift though. The horn doesn't work and neither does the AC. The radio is gone too. LoL The exhaust has no cat or muffler so it's loud right now. Gonna be fun getting it to pass inspection. I'm hoping to get a hookup somewhere for now. Oh and the antilock light is on. Fluid is good though.

Tons of little projects and thats what makes it fun!

I have a my camera so i'll try to update with pics every now and then. Thanks for the replies!

Anyone else noticed that in the ad the car is listed as a 92 but the car pictured in a 91?

All of the rubber parts in your car are 17 years old, Its ok for them to be cracked and weak.

The good news is that OE radiator hoses and heater hoses are cheap and easy to replace. The Larson Hose Kit from RRE is very reasonable and all of the vacuum hoses can be replaced one hose at a time while adding a little under hood bling.

The rubber insert in your crank pulley is probably equally old and cracked, but not so cheap or easy to replace.

I put over 120K on a 1991 AWD Talon, it was a great car. A little TLC and it is still everyday fun.

Where could I get the BOV recirculation hose from? ( if thats what it's called ) I have plans to get the ebay aluminum intercooler piping for the rest in the near future.

Those Vaccum lines from RRE are pretty nice. Thanks for the tip.

The boost gauge yeah is kinda weird spot. And for setting it I am not too sure, when the car is idle it read about 17-20 vacuum, how do I tell what the boost is set at? <-- noob sorry. Also that MBC I have no idea how to use and haven't touched yet.

You can test the MBC setting by going to WOT in an empty straight piece of road where you can direct most of your attention to the boost gauge. The boost should go up to the setting and stabilize there. An initial overshoot is boost spike and dropping off at high RPM is normal.

The MBC is adjusted by turning the knob in the direction to compress the spring to raise the setting. Go easy little steps, little steps.

Good find. Dont forget its a dsm, so be sure to maintain it well and dont cheap out on repairs. Do it right the first time.

I would recommend putting a Timing belt cover back over that belt, if a stone or what have you gets in there, its gunna cost you big bucks. And if you didnt want to re-paint all of those parts, try to make a deal with your local junkyard for them.

ps. relocate that boost gauge LOL :p

Just an update:

Car passed inspection (Yay!) Thankfully he didn't check for that cat under the car. I threw a 20 dollar muffler on it cause it had no muffler at all. He still turned it down for no license plate light and windshield wipers. Had to put a whole new license plate light assembly on because the factory lenses are missing. It looks ok I guess.

Next project is probably a good cleaning to the engine bay. I've read about the CAS so I'll try to be as careful as possible. Then another junk yard run for a new valve cover and gauge bezel. VC gasket will get changed too I think it's leaking already. Got the heat shields ready to paint. Probably going to go with a silver.

After that I'll have to start saving for a Timing Belt kit and decided to go with a balance belt eliminator kit. Sure that will be interesting to do since i've never done a timing belt before... LoL

Some recent pics of the process! Slowly getting rid of the red....
