Started porting my head on my 91 and I figured I'd share my progress. This is just a mild bowl port and blend and a manifold gasket to head port match and blend. I also smoothed out the casting flaws with 60 grit sand wheels which is why its smooth looking but its not that smooth for good air/fuel atomization. Gonna start working on the exhaust side later today which i plan on polishing the crap out of. :thumb:.

Do you plan on having the head flow tested? The reason I asked is although your port work looks good without flow testing it you will never know if what you did was an improvement or better yet hurt performance. I ported about 3 heads since I been fooling around with the 4g63 engine all without flow testing any of them it seems that one cylinder always ran leaner that the rest so I just gave up and took the fouth head to have it done professionally with flow numbers showing airflow and valve velocity, which is what was the most important over airflow alone! Just a recommendation when you finish the head find a shop and have it flow tested to see just how evenly each port matches in flow here in ga it cost 60 dollars but worth every bit! here is a head I paid 600.00 to have ported locally it is now on the car which I took to the dyno last week and broke the cyclone record with 653Whp and 566Tq I think the head made the biggest impact. The flow graph provided also help me to determine how much air the bc272s would be flowing based on overall lift of the cams.;)

There is nothing wrong with porting your own head and by looking at what you have done thus far you have skills with your hands with that being said its good to know if what you are doing is helping the head and not hurting the head and also that one cylinder is not flowing significantly more air than another, which can turn tuning the car into a nightmare, by getting it flow tested:thumb: here is the head jerry did for me its also a mild port job I did not want him to hog out exhaust side but I did want it to flow better he hooked it up!

You're absolutely right and i would be very interested to see the what flow numbers my head work gave me. Although i really didn't remove much material and was very careful to try to keep the overall shape of the stock ports and everything even. I very very carefully used a oval carbide to clean the bowl castings and barely removed anything at all. Then just sort of went in with a honing stone and some 60 grit wheels. I could see maybe some slight differences in flow between cylinders but nothing major. I would imagine the head had more of a difference in flow from the factory being that all the casting ridges in each bowl were completely different and the stepped edge of unmatched ports to the manifold was different on each cylinder. I'll see if i can find a place here in CT to flow test it, thanks for the heads up. Grats on the making 653hp/566tq.

You are on the right tracks keep us posted;)

These are my final pictures before i take it to the machine shop today to have the valve work done. Putting in bronze valve and supertech standard size undercut stem nitride valves which will be 4-5 angled. Going to be running GSC S1 cams on this head with beehive springs. Ignore my coffee cups and soda cans..

Depending on what brand of bronze guides you go with, I hope your machinist has a guide hone.

The ID of the bronze guide will need to be touched up

Yup, I took it over to Bob at RPE in hartford who's a great guy and knows his stuff. He has everything to get the job done right.
