Last year I had a shop convert my A/C over to R134a but part way through the summer my compressor seized. I figured the compressor was really old and about to go. I replaced it with another compressor that I pulled out of a parts car and had the system recharged. Well, right in the middle of near triple digit heat today my compressor seized again. Is there something that could be causing premature compressor failure, or is it more likely that this compressor was on it's last leg as well?

Was the system flushed when the first compressor was replaced? A new dryer? There is likely a ton of shrapnel in the system if they weren't and is killing your compressor. Have the system flushed and a filter installed to keep it from happening again.

I don't believe I had it flushed after the first one went out. Is it possible to flush the whole system, or do I have to replace some components? I'll make sure they're oiling the compressor, thanks.

Any other insights? I'm replacing the dryer when I put in the new compressor, can the rest be safely flushed?
