post the sound bite somewhere and link it. I can't help much without hearing it.

Hmmm. My Dad had the same problem with his infiniti Qx4. He had the exhaust replaced and once it warmed up it would get really loud at certain rpms. It turned out after 4 visits and 2 mufflers later that the exhaust wasn't hung low enough and the piping was vibrating against the bottom of the car. You might want to check and see if ANY part of the exhaust is touching the car. It is a quick and cheap fix for both you and the shop that installed it wrong.

Good luck,
Chris

Stock muffler or aftermarket? If it's aftermarket, chances are it's a straight through design with no baffles.

lemme guess you have a non-turbo, that would explain why it sounds like a riceburning honda w/ a cheap muffler. no disrespect but thats what it sounds like

sounds right to me...

that second higher pitched resonance is what I guess you are complaining about...

add another resonator to it. they always sound like that with just a muffler.

its amazing how much different the turbo DSM's and the non turbo DSM's sound i must say i'm a much bigger fan of the way the GSX roar's...atleast when it runs

Yeah, that's definately not the problem my dad had. :tease: Since you have the 420a motor, you might want to give dynomax a try. I have that on my dodge avenger and it actually sounds pretty good. Nobody's ever said anything bad about it. I've actually gotten a few compliments. It's just a normal super turbo dynomax muffler you can buy from advance auto parts.

why would being a non turbo have to do with anything. why does a turbo sound better. it shouldnt matter turbo or non, thought about trying a borla.

Heat shield vibrating from being touched by the piping or from the noise?

But aside from that, it does seem like a "normal" N/T DSM sound, albeit one with a natty muffler :( What kind of muffler is that? Might wanna try another.....

its a slivertone its a knock off of a magnaflow. i hear the shop i got it at and was told after i got it they told this lady she got a new muffler but i guess it was used. so it "could" maybe be a bad muffler. i dont wanna go back to that shop. if u think i should try another one maybe the real magnaflow

Because all of the cars exhaust flows through the blades of the turbocharger. The turbocharger is a muffler of sorts and completly changes how the engine sounds. Also cars with lower exhaust volume and larger exhaust piping have that horible noise you hear. A turbocharged car will have a lot more exhaust volume (because of more HP) and also creates a much better sounds.

Basically you will never make a non-turbo car sound the way a turbo car does. Everybody calls it the Honda noise but if you put a turbo on a honda they sound the same as a DSM does (sorta, but still sound good) and it gets rid of that sound.

Basically your either stuck with it or sell your car or turbocharge it.

i can understand maybe a higher pitch then a turbo but it just sounds like sumthing is loose inside. they said the piping was 2.5 on my car.

that muffler is junk. get a real magnaflow and maybe a resonator in line there somewhere. my friend had a n/a talon (rest in peices...) and it had a 2.5 inch exhaust on it and it sounded real deep, but i think it had a magnaflow muffler.

im talking about the way it sounds. can i also reccomend an apexi n1 muffler? i have one... sounds great.

 ok i put another one on xl performance magnaflow way to quiet. so i put the old one back on. now im just gonna save up for my turbo and hope for the best.

That's how non-turbo's with exhaust sound. There is nothing wrong with your exhaust. That's why they call it a fart can.
