the guy i bought my car from put some random off brand fart can on it and thought it was the best sounding thing on the road. I need a new muffler that wont require a lot of work to get on and is fairly cheap. i dont really care how loud or quiet it is as long as it doesnt sound like crap. ive been searching for hours so any help would be appreciated thanks.

are you going to weld it on yourself?

If you are not, then you want to look into getting an exhaust clamp and piping that is has inner diameter large enough to sleeve the exhaust piping.

as far as cheap exhaust, ebay mufflers and exhaust have had several good reviews on this website, in addition they are competitively priced.

A good solution I came across with my NT was do to an entire header back exhaust system, ebay SS heater, ebay test pipe, and pacesetter catback. I think it was less then 400 for the set up, installed it myself.

goodluck

I got a fake carbon fiber auto zone fart cannon. Doesn't sound bad. A little ric...untastefully loud at 2k to 3.5kbut it sounds pretty good above that. In all fairness I didn't install it. It came on the car. But I'm ok with it and I'm gonna keep it.

If people say it sounds like crap on a turbo it will sound worse on your NT. I personally use 2 Magnaflow mufflers. You will also want to run a cat converter for that needed back pressure.

From a post I read from another member you really want to stay at 2.25" diameter u less you want to loose your low end.

check out vibrant mufflers. they are pretty quiet, sound clean, and are reasonably cheap. good luck!

cant go wrong with magnaflow!
great quality, great sound. plus you can get sound clips on their website :)

what do you consider cheap? I think cheap is a pretty relative term. To me 450-550 bucks for a full 3" mandrel bent exhaust system seems like a steal...you can find Apexi N1's around that price range.

for a n/t the magnaflow street series single chamber muffler is a good mix between quiet and performance.
on my n/t i have a pacesetter header, magnaflow high-flow cat, some off brand res, 2.5" mandrel piping and the stated muffler. never rasps out, and really never gets loud untill around 5.5-6k.

That dont sound too bad actually! ^ It makes me wonder what my straight through design magnaflow muffler would sound like on my car. It sounds great on my bronco with a 460 and 3" exhaust. I may have to get another when I get new exhaust.

Buy a glasspack. I have a Thrush glasspack on my ESI and it sounds really nice. I got it for $40 from Checkers. Cherry Bombs are a good choice as well if you are on a budget. Here is a picture of it.

Shop around here on the classifieds as well as some vendors. extremepsi.com seems to be a majority favorite here.

Don't recommend parts to others if you yourself have never used them or really know about the product. Thats how bad shit happens. People put their opinions out there and state them as facts then anpther person reads that and uses that bad advice and has a shitty day. Besides, you'll catch hell.
