I have a MSD ignition coil that I purchased for my 1998 Eclipse RS. It has a small crack on one of the rods. Will the coil still be good? its very small. Could I just put silicone around the crack?

I've never tried but I would think like that would cause the electricity to jump and cause a misfire, if you just bought it doesn't it come with insurance?

Like Assmatic suggested, there's a strong possibility the electricity will arc from the coil to the valve cover or other nearby metal objects. You can test the coil; if there's any arcing, the car will just misfire. Chances are the coil is garbage if this is the case; you would need a dielectric material capable of insulating against several hundred volts in order to repair it. Regular electrical tape isn't enough, and silicone RTV probably isn't either.

my car doesnt misfire or anything. i bought it on ebay. he told me to send it back but i never bothered....:ohdamn: some nearby shop told me to put silicone on it. but i needed more opinions on it.
