Hello this is my first post here at dsm tuners. I am a proud new owner of a 98 gs with a 420a. I hope my presence at dsmtuners will be a good one.

To start off the car is a 5-speed and needs a new motor put in it. I have a motor already that is complete from valve cover to oil pan.

My question is with that what else should I look into purchasing aswell to do the motor swap?

The motor came with various gaskets aswell which I have yet to identify all of them but it seems the largest one would be an exhaust header gasket.

I plan on purchasing new motor mounts (more than likely polyurethane, since I've heard a few good things about them in the 3/s community) aswell as a new radiator and hoses for that.

With all that being said thank you for your time and thanks for having me here at dsmtuners!

Hi there, and welcome! Is your motor new, or used? If it's used, then I'd recommend that you change the timing belt before installing it into the car. Also, while you are installing the motor, it won't hurt to put a new clutch in while it's out...unless you know for a fact that the clutch is in great condition. IF you do re-use the clutch, then use the flywheel off your original engine...the clutch and flywheel have already "mated" *giggle*, so they should go as a pair. Hope this helps, and good luck! :)

Thanks for the response! The motor has been completely refurbished and is ready for installation with a new timing belt and its already set. I do feel that the clutch is quite good that is in the car so ill keep in mind what you said about the flywheel thank you.

another thing i forgot to mention in the original post is the reason for replacing the motor. the previous motor blew the head gasket and thus caused the coolant to get bad very quickly, that is my reasoning for changing the radiator and hoses.

Sounds like you have it pretty well figured out. Just check over everything before you put it in.me and my friend just put a motor in his sun fire and went to start it and there was oil going into the cylinders so now we have to pull it back out. Good luck!

Oh gosh! That's never good, let me know how that ends up and what happened, and thanks I just want to be way safer than sorry.

I don't think I have a gasket for mounting the tranny to the motor (if there is one I've never done this). Would anybody be able to recommend one if it exist?
