Motor just started knocking :(

well actualy 2 nights ago its not like realy bad, but you can deffinately hear it, so now my question is, what kinda parts should i get to replace them? i did the ebay search and found JE forged pistons and eagle Hbeam rods, is this some decent stuff for a DSM?? normaly when i do a repair i do it right (upgrade everything) what other parts should i upgrade?? my balence shafts are already out, should i worry about the crank?? this wont be my 1st rodeo redoing an engine, just my 1st time doing an import. what all should i look for?? thanks in advance!!

Sorry to hear she's nockin on ya. I'm not an expert but hey, what the heck.

How bad does it knock? Low rpm, mid, high, or al/? Does it still have power?

How many miles on her?

Just trying to get an idea where you stand exactly.

Reality is that you don't know until you are in there what reallt needs replaced.

Also, depends on your goals for the car. 300 HP? 400? Drag racing? Or just a daily driver?

How long have you owned the car? How long do you want to keep it?

id like to have a 12 second or so street car, the car has 140k on it, and the knock is intermittent <--sp its wierd it still has some power, but i can hear a massive boost leak, id like to be able to put a big turbo on it and not have to worry too much, and i do plan on spraying it. in about a week ill have all the money togeather to order new guts. but ill probably still be on the stock 14B for a few weeks after cuz im selling the xs 16G killer i have to help pay for the rebuild.

I would go to wiseco pistons and eagle rods (my machine shop, jacksonautomachine.com told me that there stuff seems to be more consistent than the rest). Do you plan on doing all your own work? Are you going to resurface your head and block and do a bore hone? Becareful on the rebuild, bad things happen to these engines when you don't measure everything properly or if you don't take your block to a machine shop.

im gonna take a visual at the cylinder walls and line hone them just to give it the cross hatch again, but im pretty good with an inside micrometer, and a other measuring devices im very thourough. if i dont have to take it to a macine shop, im not going too.
