hopefully soon i will start my motor build but i will be on a budget and any suggestions will be helpful, i have a 6 bolt botom end with a 7 bolt head for the most part everything is stock, i'm would like to see 450-500 H/P i'm also going to be puting a holset turbo on it i just got it in..

this is what i think i'm going to be doing.....

fuel---FPR, 850 injectors, 255 fuel pump
tuning-----dsm link, GM MAF sensor
gauges---- wide band, egt, FPR, oil pree, oil temp, boost,
controllers----boost controller, turbo timer

so please let me know if you know any short cuts thanks

I see you're all stock currently; if this is your first real modding experience with a turbo car, I would highly recommend not just going all out at once. Start with the exhaust and tuning, and work your way up to your goal. The funnest part, at least for me, is tuning, so learn how to do it yourself.

First, what turbo? HX35, HX40? Bullseye DSM Bolton, T3, stock T3?

If you're on such a budget, you could save a few hundred by getting an EPROM emulator or chip burner instead of link. Then you would also need some type of logger though, where link has a logger built in that's better than all the others. You could go with an Evo 8 ECU instead, but I think EPROM tuning would be a little easier to start out with.

If your engine is not together yet, I guess I would just build it stock except I would get ARP rod bolts and head studs. If you can get a hold of some 2g or evo 8-9 pistons cheap they are a good upgrade too, although you need to have the 6-bolt rods machined to fit them.

I would forget about the GM MAF and just use the stock 2g one or an Evo 8 style one.

For the wideband, you can get the Innovate LC1 with a nice gauge for about $199. They are very nice, work great, and have two configurable outputs so you can replace your stock sensor with the wideband for better gas mileage; the one output is set by default to simulate the narrowband for wiring it to the ECU.

For the boost controller, I would just get whatever MBC is cheap. I have a cheapo $15-20 one and have not had any issues with it.

AFI quite often has pretty good sales on injectors posted here on tuners, so keep your eye out for that on vendor announcements.

Also, don't forget about a really good clutch, and maybe a flywheel.

I would suggest a decent set of cams, atleast hks 264's or equivelent. How many miles on your car?Might also wanna do a timing belt/water pump maint. One small thing is to get a 1.3bar coolant cap, mine started puking coolant at ~21psi boost.Just my $.02:D

Really?i've never had any issues with overheating,i did however with the heater core.It started leaking into the car, then i just bypassed it,went out for a run,it started leaking a bit,i waited till it cooled down, there was a ton of air in it.I added about 3/4 of a gallon of coolant, went and bought a 1.3bar cap and haven't had any issues since.I am not sure if it was air in the system or the actual cap?just thought it might have been a common dsm issue.

Well if it's never even been a little low since, your cap was probably in need of replacement.
