Ok so i got an aftermarket oil pan from OBX, which is the same design as the Moroso. Anyways on both OBX's and Moroso's website it says "utilizes stop oil pickup" but the guy building my motor said it was too short to fit on that pan. so my question is: is my mechanic wrong? Do you use the stock oil pickup? and if so does anyone have a picture of where it goes? Any feedback on this will be greatly appreciated.

thanks guys/gals.

Too short to fit on the pan? I thought we were talking about the pan altogether? What is too short for the pan? If you need an extra oil pan I have one around here somewhere..

no its the oil pickup. the curly piece that sits in the pan and sucks the oil up into the oil pump. i think my mechanic might be trying to put it in wrong or something. I was hoping someone could post a picture of how it should go.

So the oil pan is too short for the pickup tube? Or is the pickup tube too short for the oil pan?

Well sort of. You see the oil pan was designed for the Neon. Now as you know the Neon has the exhaust in the rear of the motor. Keep that in your mind set for a minute.

Now look at our oil pan and see how the left side of the pan is notched? As you know in that notched area is the Downpipe and our center member. So now you see why it wont work.

The oil pan will bolt up but when you go to set the motor in the car is when your going to find the problem. Even if you dropped the downpipe below the oil pan, the centermember would still be in the way.

so is there no way at all to make this work, cause apparently no one makes a decent oil pan for a 420a eclipse

Just use a stock one like everyone else. It will work just FINE. Don't worry about it..

I say use a stock one, but get baffles, a windage tray, and a crankscraper from crankscrapers.com. That way, you get whatever benefits you were looking for from that Moroso pan, but... it'll actually fit!

For the pickup, I found that the pickup from a neon motor is a bit longer and fits in the pan much better. Now for fitting in the car. No, it wont fit with the oem crossmember nor will a header. Now if you know how to do any fab work or know anyone that dose. Make a new crossmember. I will get some photos up on how I made mine once I get the car in the air. But I can asure you it's not as hard as it sounds. The one I pulled from this car had been tagged damn good and wasnt any good. So I just made one that fit my needs.
For the header I am going to cut it before it bends and weld in a flange where its needed. But you need to be able to weld stainless for this.
If your looking for bolt on, Sorry I dont know of anyone that makes them

so where can i get a windage tray and baffles from to fit a stock oil pan? and what about welding in bungs for the turbo oil return and oil temp guages? i heard welding bungs on the stock oil pan causes them to leak badly, is this true?

I told you in my first post... http://www.crankscrapers.com

Just specify to them that you have a 2.0L 420A from an Eclipse/Talon.

The welded bungs shouldn't leak if they're welded well... TIG welds are probably the safest bet - you shouldn't encounter any leak problems with those; but even MIG welds, if done right, shouldn't leak.

I'd sell or return the pan. There really isn't even a point to it as far as I can see...

Like I said, you can get all the features of the pan, and some, with that windage tray/baffles/crank scraper. The only thing you'll be missing is the shiny aluminum and about 8 ounces worth of weight savings.

The pickup for the DSM version of the 420a is a different length than the one in the Neon. They look very similar and until you compare them side by side you probably would think they are the same. Hope that helps.

Edit: Oh! I see that carguyinok answered that.

An side -- the Moroso pan is a very nice piece. I was asked to make a directional screening insert for it -- guy at a Neons.org meet forwarded his pan to me for the pattern. Not sure how close a copy the OBX is and whether the insert would work there as well.

Sorry I took so long. But all and all it took about two hours and is stronger then stock. I boxed everything with 1/4" steel & put an 1/8th" strap under it.
I have been to busy to get online & have other photos if you want. But for now I will post these.
