Hi,

I have a stock 95' TSi and Ive got a couple of ideas for it.

1'st. I want to make it to the 300-350hp mark but honestly im not sure how.. i don't just want to buy alot of parts and hope it's gonna make it to 300. What to do and what to buy ?

- Logger? Does it matter what kind? What loggers are good and will give me all the necessary info to make it to 350hp ?

- Obd-ii Reader? Is it any good and worth the money? http://www.pocketlogger.com/?pid=plobdii

- Gauges? I recently bought a boost gauge, not installed yet.. but what other gauges are people using?

- Engine Now.. Since im going for the 300-350 horsepowers, i don't want to blow my engine right away, are these rebuild kit from slowboy racing a wise choice ? http://www.slowboyracing.com/more.php?id=1090& What to get ? .10 over 0.20 over or std?

Mods

- Intake? I like the Injen intake system (W/ K&N filter) the most so far, i can get one used for a good price. Anything out the a better bang for the buck?

- BOV? What to look for in them? I'm not looking for that loud vent sound.. just have no idea what to get.

- Exhaust System What system to get? I want a 3" with a high flow cat and downpipe. Is it any worse having it made at the next shop then buying a 500$ hks ?

Well.. some of the answers i already know but i just want to get a second opinion, don't want to make any mistakes on this car. :shhh:

Any logger worth it's salt will give you the ability to make a datalog and read OBD2 codes. Pocketlogger.com is a good place to start if you're not sure which logger to get.

- Gauges? I recently bought a boost gauge, not installed yet.. but what other gauges are people using?
Boost gauge is good to start off with and with a 300-350 hp goal, I don't see the need to spend extra for a wideband oxygen sensor or an EGT (just my personal opinion, of course)

Before you start ripping your engine apart, do a compression and leakdown test. Standard cylinder pressure for a 2G motor is 178 psi, the servicable limit is 133 psi. If it's good enough, then you don't need to rip it apart, especially since that rebuild kit that uses lower compression pistons than stock.

Get a BOV from a 1G dsm if you want bang for your buck.

Only if they half-ass the welds, use press bends, and use sharp turns instead of smooth ones. As long as it doesn't look like a hack job and a half and it won't east itself away from rust after the first winter, that's a better bet than buying a $500 HKS exhaust.

Welcome to the club, and remember there are no stupid questions....except for the ones about venting BOV's, neon light kits, aluminum wings, and other non performance related questions. :dsm:

BTW, don't forget to read the Tech Guide for upgrades. The first section of the guide should be enough for you to reach your goal of 300 hp.
 
Quasimondo has some good information...

Read the tech guide, as stated above, and just mod your car in that order. Do the compression and leakdown tests on the motor; stock 2G motors are good for 400whp stock, so no rebuild is in order yet. About the BOV's, I would reccommend the 1G DSM BOV, or something like a Greddy Type S w/ a recirculation kit. And on the note of gauges, all that is necessary is a boost gauge, but I would pick up a oil pressure gauge, and an EGT gauge once you get into tuning with a SAFC or something similar.
