is it and upgrade, im think of runnin that with a t-28, and water injection with the right fuel supporting mods, at around.... 23-24 psi....

I would not go with a mark3. I have seen those and I dont see how they would be an improvement in our cars. The mark4 however is proven. I just ordered one myself. I also Have a freind who has a 90 with a stroker and a 20g, he is using the mark4 and he runs 11.80's. I know there is a point where you need a fmic but I believe the supra mark4 is good for like 400 or 450hp. Buy whats proven I got mine on ebay for 150.00. plus these fit nice and snuf in our cars. At least they do a 1g. Any 2g guys out there know how they fit?

I wouldn't either.

I just ordered a Johnny Racecar FMIC. After ording my own piping the total kit cost about 300. You should look into it considering it's only 150-200 more than the Supra sidemount.

hey i think ill go with the mk4 ive heard of so many good things about it!, and im goin for the sleeper, look, t-28 turbo ;) , and nitrous, and some mayjor engine work! :shhh:

Yea,
Was thinking of maybe purchasing one myself..i've heard great things about the markIV.
Actually not too long ago a guy on ebay was selling his MarkIV intercooler already prepared to fit a 2g. its toobad i was outbid.. oh well..

i wonder how hard it is to fit a Supra SMIC in there. I know its close just how much modification is needed..

I attempted to install a MKIV SMIC in my 1G Auto and it was a pain. I did a lot of metal cutting and what not to fit the intercooler in there. It will fit with some patience. However, the auto tranny is much larger than a manual and there was no easy way to fit the lower IC piping. I decided not to finish the install and went with a FMIC.

I sold it to a buddy who has a 2G and the next morning he called me up saying it was install, had to use a couple pipes and couplers but didn't have to do any cutting. Fit like a glove and he loves it.

There are write ups on the web about how to install MKIV SMIC on both 1Gs and 2Gs, do a search and you'll find them. Great upgrade.

my frind has an 87 mark 3 supra and he gave me that core, I made custom pipe 2.5, withch was very difficlut since the inlet and outlet are on the same side. And I saw no nticable diffrence over cutting the underfender guards and pulling the fog light.

btw this intercooler is the front mount not the side mount, i didn't even know they used a side mount

mkiv:

just be aware that it will not work if you are running an ECLIPSE fipk(try a 3000gt fipk) or are running Greddy pipes, as the outlet gets shifted over a couple of inches inward...

23-24 psi on a Supra SMIC is a bad idea. Actually I think the Supra SMIC's are a bad idea period. First off when you put it on a DSM, you have to flip the endtank, so you are only effectively using half the core. That and its a plastic endtanked POS that will give you more grief than performance.

half the core? Incorrect. Plastic end tanks epoxy on very easily. Just be sure you have it positioned perfectly before affixing the end tanks on permanently.

WTF you have got to be kidding me :toobad: . This has been one of the best proven methods of upgrading an intercooler for the budget tuner.

My MKIV Supra Intercooler is just chillin' waiting for a turbo upgrade before I throw her on.

As far as I've seen it really isn't THAT hard to install the intercooler. I got mine with the end caps already flipped off of ebay. The endcaps are actually held on by metal tabs, you bend them all, pull the end cap off, flip it, and then push the tabs back down.

The MKIV is probably the best intercooler to buy if you are on a tight budget, I mean who can beat a intercooler that supports up to 400HP for ~$100? Finding one can be a pain though.

MKIV intercooler is almost if not 3 times the size the stock SMIC is on a DSM. So saying it doesn't yield any performance benefits is much like saying upgrading from a T25 to a 16G yields no benefits.

i have an MKIII and i dont know why you would want to change over to it, the design itself is pretty bad as far as cooling goes, toyota was stoned, but this would not be that great of an upgrade, yea for shits it would work but theres really no big difference in cooling and its a front mount so have fun tucking it in wheel well. i have it and am looking for a different style.
seriously pushing 23psi in something designed for 7psi isnt such a grand idea. you'll be flowing so fast it wont do anything. get yourself a decent front mount for that psi.

They are talking about the MKIV side mount intercooler, not the MKIII front mount.

It's a great SMIC for a 16g, T28, or stock turbos. Anything more and it starts to heatsoak. But I had no complaints on mine other than it was not fun carving my car up a little.
