Hi, I'm redoing the front suspension setup install on my car and I'm having some problems. The previous owner has had KYB AGX shocks and Ground Control coilovers put on the car, but then decided the ride was too harsh so he took the coilovers off the front.

I'm putting the coilovers back on and I can only conclude that I'm missing some parts. First of all the most obvious problem is that there are no bumpstops. That is easily taken care of. The main thing though, is that when the top mount is installed on the skinnier, keyed, part of the shaft and the top nut is all the way tight, the top mount still has a lot of up and down play on that skinny part of the shaft. this means that when the assembly is installed, the shaft will move up and down inside the bearing in the top mount, i assume this isn't good.

Another thing is that the bearing in the center of the top mount isn't shielded at all. I can see the balls and grease in the races and I don't think I should be able to see that. I am probably missing some shields or something.

Also the little plastic ' adjuster knob ' on the passengers side shock shaft is kind of loose, I'm not sure if it matters as the actual adjustment ' thing ' is inside under the plastic piece, but it makes me unsure of whether the current number setting indicated is accurate or not. Will it hurt the shock if this knob is turned too far, or wont it turn after a certain point. I didn't want to tempt fate and check.

I am looking for any information on what I might be missing or a copy of the instruction manual for the agxs (the coilovers were easy enough to figure out). I'll put up a diagram to show how I have it set up currently so you can get a better idea of what I'm talking about.

note: pictured is EXACTLY the parts i am using to assemble the setup. if i didn't show a part specifically it probably isn't there. so if you notice some little part that I am missing please tell me! I didn't have the instructions for the coilovers or the shocks so this is the best I can do with my current knowledge.

I've replaced my struts, etc, but I don't remember whether the bearings were visible at some point in disassembly process. I do remember something visibly weird like that on 2G cars though, as I found it bizarre and noted it in my mind.

I looked under the hood, removed dust cap from strut top to access AGX adjustable settings and it's not possible to see any bearings while assembly is in the car.

Let me know if the pictures I posted doesn't resolve your issue. I may be able to drop my front strut/spring assembly and take pictures for you, since my car is up in air and lower arm detached from strut for a while. Let me know ASAP though, since I can mess with this stuff only on Sat/Sun/Wed.

From what I'm understanding, your strut insulator/bearing assembly is something different, perhaps aftermarket or 2G item.

This is from Haynes manual:

I figured it out. I had to use the stock upper spring perch. I figured that since the coilover spring was so tiny it had to sit on the bottom of the upper mount (strut insulator) which is a similar size. I was wrong. I put the upper spring perches back on and viola, 300% improvement, although it looks weird with the wide upper perch compared to the much smaller spring. It would've helped a lot if I would have had some instructions or something. In retrospect though, DUH. Also the little plastic 'knob' on top that you use to adjust the setting of the front strut has come off the drivers side so thats great. Hopefully I can just contact AGX and they will be able to supply me with a new one.

Hey guys, I've been searching but cant find an answer. I bought gc coilovers on kyb agx's on dsmtrader and The front shocks and coilover set must be missing some parts. It only came with the shock with the coilover installed on it and the spring that sits on the coilover. When I put on the upper spring seat the spring is sitting very unevenly. Is there a part that the spring is supposed to lean on that goes in between the spring and the upper spring seat? Vfaq did mention a rubber cushion used on 1g kits. Does the rubber cushion have groves on it that accomodate the springs winding shape. If so I really need to get two of these. Will gc sell them separately to me? Thanks so much.
