Goodmorning guys, new to the forum and recently picked up this 92 Eclipse GSX from a trade and for some reason my car seems to overheat after driven for long period of time?

previous owner have said it need a full tune when he switched out the injector to 1200cc and a larger turbo, he also said there could be a radiator leak because as soon as i let the car sit on idle from long driving i turn it off (no turbo timer) it leaked loads of radiator fluid from under the car and steam was coming out of the back of engine?(first thought was the coolant overflow is leaking) previous owner said he installed 2 thin fan but the fan only kicks on when the engine is off im not sure if the fan is on when im driving also im running No O2 sensors and check engine light turns on when i hit 3k and shut off when i go below is that because of the tune? im not sure if this is a good build but i sure hope it is, im driving it only for a DD not to race

Here are the mods on the car: any idea what is the HP on stock boost (7psi)?

im at school but i have the complete list on my labtop at home

Engine:
8.5:1 Weisco Pistons
Scat Rods
ARP Rod Bolts and Head Studs
Clevite Bearings
Reman Crank
Block Deck milled
Block bored .020 over

Timing belt components
belts replaced

Bolt on:
Precision SC61 Turbo
SS line w/ AN fittings for Oil Return line
3" Downpipe
3" pipe all the way back no cat
Dynamax Muffler
2g Exhaust manifold
front mount intercooler

thankyou for your time :hellyeah:

It sounds like you inherited a headache for a DD. Do a compression test and a coolant system pressure test and report back.

Hmmm...what is the car tuned with? I hope you at least have an Eprom ECU with a chip, but DSMLink would be a better option.

No O2 sensors? So how does the car know how to run in closed loop?

The CEL could very well be flashing for knock if the car has a keydiver chip.

I will need more details or I could sit here all day and shoot from the hip and still miss.

hmm coolant from the back of the engine. Did you check the coolant hoses that go the heater core and TB. They run by the engine and can leak. If he reused those hoses chances are they could be cracked from removal and installation. I had to cut mine off to remove them and my car is 5 years younger.

Go to Autozone, if there is one near by, and rent a coolant leak tester. That will show you exactly where the leak is coming from.

While you are at it make sure you buy a compression tester, they are only $25 at Autozone and Advance. That will let you know if the HG is good, if the coolant leak tells you nothing. But since coolant is the problem definitely concentrate locating the leak.

Start simple then work your way to complicated.

Well it has a GM MAP i believe and a DSMLink i barely drive the car due to no tags/insurance the car use to have a wideband but previous owner took them off the car idle little rough just little hestitation buti think its because of the O2 Sensor not being in its placed, i hardly get into boost so other than that i will do a compression test and what are they post to be around?
i should be getting a full tune from a Import Specialist at his shop (FusionWorks Racing) wichita, ks

well i had a non-running car (Z32 300zx TT) and traded it for a running car, i couldnt turn down the offer but i need this car to get me to point a to point b also out looking for job

Walbro 255 pump w/ reqire kit installed
1200cc injectors

Transmission:
Spec stage II clutch

Liquid filled autometer vac/boost gauge
dsmlink
Data logger on PALM IIIc (dont know if i have it)
Eprom chip installed (unsure also)
GM MAF with pig tails
Drilled and slotted rotors
2 rear Tires are brand new!
2 front tires in great condition!
Optima battery is brand new!
New Radiator/Thermostat!
New Windshield!

Do you have access to the DSMLink forums yet? You can get the PO's acct transferred over to you and get your own acct there. They will probably want the serial number off the eprom chip in the ECU to verify its authenticity. Email them to find out. [email protected]

Do you have a laptop? If so, then you need to get it connected to the car so you can post an idle log. You will get a ton of help with a log. It won't take long to figure out the problem. You won't need a datalogger since DSMLink is one also. I prefer the laptop version, but there is a palm version that I know nothing about if you don't have a laptop to use. All the info about it is on the DSMLink forum.

Get a Denso front o2 sensor from sparkplugs.com or oxygensensors.com for the best price. You aren't going to be able to drive the car worth a shit w/o one unless the the ECU is locked in open loop by the PO.

Honestly you are going to get a better tune by posting logs on the DSMLink forum and getting advice than what your average shop will do. I have seen quite a few POS tunes from "performance" shops on the forums that people helped fix over the internet. Nothing against this guy in particular.

I would expect compression to be around 175-180 with stock cams, but there are too many variables to say exactly.

i had a similar problem after fmic install on my old talon.turned out that it was just running so hot that the coolent backed out of the overflow.i put the the stock fan and slim on switch and let the run a few mins after shutting the car and never had that prolem agian

Do you have a laptop? Did the prev. owner leave you with any cables?

Def. get an o2 sensor. But you might also have to log into link with your laptop. Just to see whats going on and compensate for those huge injectors.

The coolant leak, might be from the turbo water lines. Or the heater core lines.
