My speedomoter isnt working after a tranny swap, so I started diagnosing the problem with no luck. Here's what i've done so far.

Swapped spedometer's
Attatched drill to cable, got to 45mph in .5 seconds!
Watched position of the sensor on the tranny, the notch is always at a different angle, so that means it's spinning on the tranny.

Although, with all of this, you would think screw it in and it would work, but it doesnt.
I would replace the cable and sensor, but they both show signs of working perfect. I made shure I had the cable screwed on tight. I'm also getting a CEL for speed sensor, but im shure that's a related problem. (cluster cant be bad of the drill made it work)

Any ideas?

The cable might be broken in the middle somewhere. That's all I can think of. That's what happened on my 1992 Corolla, but that car has a 2-part cable. I have no idea on the DSM as I have not needed to solve such a problem.

That cant be thought, because when I connected the drill to the end of the cable (part that goes into the tranny) it registered about 45mph

do you see the little tab on the end of the cable that goes into the tranny? it has a corresponding notch in the tranny this has to be put in first then you screw the outside cover down.

I would troubleshoot backwards from how you did it before. Take the speedo out, hook the cable up at the transmixer, and try to turn the cable. If it turns, you know it is not connected properly. This will confirm the cable sitting in the drive gear correctly. Might also be worth the time to pull the speedo drive gear out and take a look at it, you say the drive is turning, but maybe its just slipping when the cable is connected.

That's almost exactly what I was starting to assume. I was thinking maybe the gear is stripped and the cable has just enough resistance to make it do so. I'll look into it more tommorow.
