Walbro 255 mind blow...help

ok guys...new to the dsm. had gti for long tme. so heres my problem...


i got walbro 255 pump. went into the back seat, unscrewed the cover for the pump, no hoses on top of the cover? just plug for sensor. pulled the over open and there is no pump in it...? now i bought this car from a guy who didnt know shit aobut it and all he knew was its a 6 bolt on a 2nd gen and has a 16g turbo. i may have found pump in engine bay...and it looks like the pump is actually....big....alot bigger than the walbro....is this a relocation of the pump or whats going on??? help me im new to this stuff!

The fuel pump is iside the left compartment. There are 2 covers the one on the right is just to access the siphon hose. On the other hand he might have a 044 pump as well. I would still expect to find a pump in the tank.
