I was wondering how many miles you should have on a car before you just say screw it because it's pointless?

sell it and buy a GS-T or GSX. mileage don't really mean nothing to me, i have a 97 eclipse gst with 130000 miles on it.

It depends on how much you've pushed your car during those 83K miles, how well you've kept up with maintenance, any accidents that would've caused damage to vital engine parts, etc. Are you the first owner of the car? Have you done a compression test lately? Check to see if the compression is within the acceptable psi range. Mileage is a important factor, but you should also consider what I've listed above and other things that DSMers have/will list in this forum to help you when you're determining if it's "pointless." If you love your DSM, you can handle the stress when the car breaks down occasionally, and you have the funds to maintain it then there is no "screw it because it's pointless" time.

I guess it depends if you just drive your car, or if you love to drive your car. I just went over 100K on my 99 Eclipse Spyder. So I went out and celebrated with her. I got her a new paint job (Solar Yellow, a nice pearled mettalic yellow :thumb: :thumb: ) Some new rims off the Discount tire Ebay shop, a new sportline muffler, some nice Halo projector headlights and spent the weekend giving her lot's of TLC.
And honestly no sh*t I came through the gates yesterday here on base (I'm stationed in Sigonella Italy) and the guard on duty asked me if it was a new car !!!!, it does look sweet, but obviously the guy has no knowledge of his cars OMG since they haven't made one like it in six years....
So that's all up to you, I've done all the scheduled maintenance on mine and she runs great, the only smoke the car puts out is coming from me. I'll have to get some pictures up to show her new found glory off, they guys over here in Italy do great work and the cost of labor was nothing.....So I say keep it if you love it !!!! I do !! :thumb: :thumb: :dsm:
