So I have blown suspension. Already decided on KYB AGX struts. But cant decide between Megan 2" drop springs or Ksport 2" drop srings. Any opinions? Has anyone used ether brand springs? Not the coilover systems or sleeves these comanys offer. Just the lowering springs. Thanks in advance.

when I was deciding between springs vs coilovers, i basically jumped on the c.o.'s as they were so close in price. There is not much diff especially with the classifieds like the ones on this forum. You can buy pretty much anything at a fraciton of price new, if you learn to be a tad bit patient!
Coilovers all the way. Not that you need em, but for the price why not!

Tokico illuminate and springs for like 550.. All in that's great IMO for adjustable shocks. And the ride is awesome.

I have the Megan/AGX setup. Ive been running that for about 2 years now. I have never had a problem with it. I actually like it but I would of rather went coilovers now days. But ive never even looked a ksports so i could not tell you which would be a better setup.

Thanx guys. I don't want coilovers they do cost me more and idc about hieght adjustment. :nono: When it comes to tokico idea that was posted I had previous considered so but I like the AGX over Illumina. Also I already have a 1" drop and want 2" that come from Megan/Ksport. Ill pay about 560 for Tokico Illumina strut and spring set and for complete set doing AGX and Megan/Ksport gonna run me same price. But Megan coilovers take me 700-750 and that was cheapest less I go emusa and that's not option for me. So as far as I see I can save compared to coilovers. Labor not an issue as I work at a mechanic shop so its all free. :thumb:

my buddy had megans. they are the lowest good looking spring i have seen.

i keep going back and fourth on coils vs just getting the look. kinda in your boat. i have the illumina kit and the drop isnt what i wanted. i would go megan as they seem to be a very good price/what you get combo.

just check that the agx can handle the drop, and order away! :)

Go with megan but you should've done it right and got coilovers rather than running a hacked setup.

i wouldnt say "hacked"

to spend $1,400-2k on good coils is excessive if he wants a drop. i bought barely used pss9's for my focus for $750. awesome. amazing. but no way id pay $1,400 for them. not in my budget. i'd just run H&R race on konis and it would be half the price for a rippin setup.

the dsm takes work to carve corners. if you would like a 2" drop, megans will work. Im about to remove my illumina springs and buy megans. im not tracking the car at all. my focus carves corners, my dsm is for power :)

awaiting suspension guru's that have thousands in their cars and can afford nice coils to reply. :D

KYB AGXs are not a good strut for a 2" drop. There are numerous cases of them blowing with anything lower than 1-1.5" of drop. Of course I have a 1g but in our case people who are smart will go Koni Yellow with, for example, Eibach Sportline like I have. But I'm about to switch to BC coilovers. Both of my front struts are blown from my front end bottoming out from driving around Fort Polk/Leesville, LA while I was in the Army. Do a little more research on good setups, just, and this is just my opinion, stay away from AGXs with that aggressive of a drop.

project98dsm.....u cant say hello to speedy?! LOL its brinton! i thought u liked the megans, even tho they were low.

my illumina kit is not level at all. one side is 2 finger gap, the other side is 3. you have to spin the spring on some and it seems to raise the height. annoys me a LOT. bumps are rattle-rattle. meh. id like to try GC sleeves, but the wait is crazy long from what i hear.

fwiw, focus guys say 1.5" max on AGX as well. thats why i said check specs for the max drop on 2g ;).

For tsi kid my point is I'm college student on budget and as far as I see thevl main advantage to coilovers is adjustable height and you have to do a lot adustment to make all sides level. I don't need that option. And I don't see the problem with piecing your own set up. Me and many people I know have done it plentyband had no difference in feel to me. Yes I've had a coilover set up on a previous car and in my opinion I like building a set better so no need to trash my opinion sorry and thnx. If AGX will not handle my 2" drop does any one have any suggetions. Will the Illuminas hold 2"?

And that's proof that you're still some HS kid.

Springs ride like sh*t and when you can get a decent set of coilovers for $850, why wouldn't you do it right?

But then again, who wants to spend the money and do things right..

HS may ass friend. I'm 26 and just started college 2 year ago for Computer Science Technology with a major for Application Programing and Maint. Basically I'm going to be the guy that makes the code so any and all things you buy do what they are posed to. I also work full time to pay all my own bills ie college budget. Get info before you trash. This is my 11th build ranging from toyota to honda to nissian to 1g dsm to bmw to mazda. I'm no stranger to import builda and have had both coilovers and spring set ups and I've preference is springs. Just ### your opinion differa don't mean you need to trash other peoples opiniona

Use proper grammar, spelling, capitalization, etc.

Didn't mean for this to turn into an attack, just showing you that you can get decent coilovers for a price you said that you couldn't.

Its ok man but I did price research and im saving going this route about 200 bux and have a bunch to order with tax checks. So KYB official stated none of their products will support 2" they recommend 1" only. But Tokico offical stated they recommend 1.5" on theirs but it will support 2" so looks like I'm changing to Illuminas less I find Koni yellow in my range.

wow TSi Kid, way to keep nagging on a new kid that is probably the chillest Probationary member to post here. and now you are going to nitpick his grammar.

he clearly stated hes on a fixed budget! he doesnt want coils. he wants to freshen up his blown out setup.

Illumina's can handle the GC sleeves, and should handle megan springs as well from what I have seen. If you want the BEST non coilover shock to build upon definitely go Koni yellows....but then they are going to be around $600 for shocks alone...and frankly that's what you want to spend MAX altogether.

first, check the BST section for a used set of shocks/springs/suspension. if nothing there, I'd say try illuminas and the megans. for complete cost basis alone.

The OP said he's already decided to get AGXs, so there's not a lot I can do for him. For anyone not already committed to a terrible shock, please consider doing nothing until you can afford Konis.

As to these $850 coilovers ... ick. A car on Konis with cut OE springs will ride better and handle better than anything on those.

I really don't understand why no one makes a complete kit with the Koni yellows/koni sleeve/hypercoils. i dont want to piece together a kit. i want to walk in, but a properly match kit, and install. the best non traditional coilover setup isn't even offered complete o.0

sorry for off topic.

um....his username is still active in the forum.

not sure on why this setup is "restricted from manufacture". i read his thread. it was really nice of him to divulge the parts needed. i thank him.

too bad its not allowed to be sold or guys like the OP and myself could be easily swayed into buying that and never would mess with figuring out shock/spring combos again. I spend $600 on the illumina setup and now im stuck with the worst susp setup i have ever bought. my $550 AGX/H&R sport setup on the focus was awesome compared to this rattle rattle, swaying like a boat combo. :/

Ignore that quite silly warning of his that no-one can copy it. Completely unenforceable, internet lawyering. But the rest of that page is great stuff. If a vendor would step up and package these systems, it would be great for those with 2Gs. The issue is the upper plates, but that's far from unsolvable.

And Dennis does drop in every now and then; he just isn't anywhere near as active as when he owned and raced a DSM.
