Hey guys, my stock clutch is cashed and I purchased an ACT 2100 kit for it. Mechanic who my dad talked to this morning said that he won't replace it because of something to do with Mitsu's and having to drop the entire block in order to replace the clutch. I think he's way off on this one and doesn't know what the hell he's talking about. Please let me know why he would be thinking this and give me any site that would prove him wrong. (Link to the vfaq for it would also be great- I searched and couldn't get it) Thanks guys!

honestly wow... any mechanic that refuses to do a clutch job is rediculous...

First of all, a guy i worked with at a shop could do an AWD eclipse in 45 minutes... (yes, i've seen him do it, rather amazing actually)

Second, no dropping of the block, what you do have to do (as outlined in the VFAQ), is dissasemble the suspension, and "drop" the trans. Its really not any harder than any other transaxle clutch job once you've take the transfer case out. however one added step you have to take when using and aftermarket clutch is that you have to step the flywheel.... make SURE you do this. (its a machining process)

book time on an AWD eclipse clutch job is huge though, so hopefully this guy won't charge you for that.

Its too early for me to be fully awake, so if i said anything stupid, please correct it :thumb:

if he refused to do it thats a good thing......he doesnt kno what the hell he is doing so he doesnt want to mess up the car. I wish my mech was like that.

My mechanic said he wouldnt replace mine.....seemed a little odd but he does work on Ferraris so I didnt question him.
:dsm:

Your mechanic is too uppity to work on a DSM I bet. :p I looked over teh FAQ (cause I am going to be doing my 1g FWD here soon) and it didnt look too scary. I even think I could do it! But wow...45m...thats the shit. Any close to Cincy wants to come over and help me who has knowledge....beer is on me :D

Well hell if the beers on you I'll trailer up the spyder and we can spend a weekend doing both of em LOL. :thumb: Word of advice: dont offer free beer to UW madison students :nono: Thanks for the help guys

He's done a favor for you. He's shown you how incompetent he is, and without having to screw up your car to prove it.

Actually alot of garages do turn down any work having to do with the clutch or transmisson. Its not always because they can't or don't know how. This case sounds like he didn't know how, or just didn't want to do it in general.
