My friend has a 94 integra LS with a custom intake, it is an AEM cold-air for a civic but he cut it so it is longer that a short ram but it doesnt go all the way down like a cold air. He also has exle back piping and a high flow muffler. I have my 96 RS with CAI and catback 2.5 inch piping. We are side by side through 1st and 2nd, but as soon as we hit 3rd he leaves me like he has nitrous, and he doesnt even have V-TECH. Does this sound like a problem with my car or what? help me out.
 
ive never had a 2g or even a n/t but i wouldnt imagine him rapeing you like he's on the bottle if you 2 were even thru 2nd
 
doesnt rs stand for really slow?

you should consider yourself lucky for hanging with him that long, look at the power to weight ratios.
 
Yeah your car weighs probably around 3200 lbs or more, and his weighs probably around 2200 lbs. On top of that, hes probably making more power. Time for a turbo, or time to start stripping =)

dont listen to this pathetic n00bie:rolleyes: GSX weight approx 3200 lbs. & RS weight 2,754 lbs. Get some headers maybe that can make up the difference if not just get a 50shot of N2O and destroy him
 
port+polish your head, cams+cam gears, larger injectors, port out your intake manifold, adjustable fuel pressure regulator, and full exaust, and you will beat him hands down

easy on the false info buddy, the reason you lost is becuase the 420 doesnt have top end l;ike the honda engine does(in reletive terms, even though bioth have shitty top end). But when compared he has more top end and is slightly lighter at about 2700 and you at about 2800 or so. With more top end and a little less weight that is why he is leaving you. Even though you have more low end and more torque all togather, by the time you hit 45mph that is factored out and its all hp and weight.

I got beat by a JDM Type-R....top-end of course in my TSi AWD. It started to pull fairly hard midway through 4th gear...course if it was a quarter mile I would have won.

Anyway my point is DSMs don't have the best top-end, 3rd gear is the gear that essentially breaks or makes you in a race.

So yes it is normal that you lose at the 3rd gear point, lighter flywheel will help a little bit and so would new headers.

correction AWD dont have Topend FWD have way better topend since the gear ratio is set up for it. i destroyed a Type-R with just intake and BOV
 
my non turbo would rip an integra through 1st and 2nd (ls model) but if I ever found one on a freeway and went from a 3rd gear roll, it would be dead even...heres my mods..


AEM cold air intake
4-1 Header w/ 2.5" flexpipe
2.5" hi flo cat
apexi Dunk exhaust
AFX Underdrive Pulley
Fidanza Flywheel
weight reduction...racing seats, no back seat, no spare tire or tools.
 
yeah I beat aitr when I was stock and it was the fastest year 2001...other itrs are a waste of gas. The top end on a fwd dsm is matchable with alot of top end cars(with minor modifacations) I fear no four banger or 6 on a roll its v8s that are s/c that I worry about, other then that no n/a 4 or other turbo 4 (except srt4 when I was on the t25) can relly hang with me on the top.

Yeah you could do that and spend tons of money and then one day realize you share a motor with a neon and your wasting your time and you want a 4g63. So I'd say either sell the car and get a gsx/gst or look into nitrous to hold you over. :talon:

then only sti's Ive seenwas on the exit/entrance ramp...and I was on the opposite of them. I ve raced quite a few wrxs and they fall on their face on the top of third. but the sti and wrx are com[plete opposites of the spetrum.

thats because you have awd...even on the t25 it had great top end. if you were closer Id take you for a drive and show you the natural top end of a dsm. :thumb:

Look, I appreciate your contribution, and you have made it clear that you dont like a N/Ts, but I am 16, my parents paid for most of my car, so I cant sell it, and i am working with what i have. So if you cant help me out or post something other than telling me that my car sucks, could you just save you posts for yourself.
 
I didn't read through this whole thread so I may be repeating other people, but yea, you're definately going to fall short even if you mod more.

First major reason is weight. The DSMs just aren't light and since you're NA, you can't make up that weight with power. The LS has a pretty comparable engine compared to the 420a too.

Second reason, believe it or not, is gearing. Third gear on 420a's suck. It's plain and simple, the nvt tranny gears third horribly. It's possibly the slowest gear ever. My own personal story on this is when I was at the track racing a cavalier.. i had about two car lengths going into third, but the cav beat me to the line. I was confuzzled.

Unfortunately, regearing the tranny isn't possible. There are final drive mods to make the gears higher, not lower. But this is more for the nt turbo kit guys to get some traction since the NT first and second gear are pretty low and torquey.
 
Yeah, it sounds like a problem with your car is pretty slow and a lot heavier. Sorry to say but an intgra has about the same amount of power stock, weighs about 500 lbs lighter, and depending on the tranny will out accelerate your car without nitrous. You car is fine I'm sure, but owning both a turbo, a non turbo, and an integra, I know that my teg will walk my N/T GS Eclipse hence why I only use it a s a daily driver because it doesn't go fast at all. The reason your able to keep up in the first two gears is just your torque. Third gear is extremely long where as the integra is shorter.
