that would actully be a cool thing for 1g's, because we have the built in frames. I think when done right, they are pretty cool, and I think most here will admit it also, but are just afraid to :thumb:

the difference between the mclaren and the 1g doors however ,is the angle...1Gs have so many more angles than the Mclaren..that would complicate a conversion like that...

It would need to:

Go out far enough to clear the fenders/windshield - outward hinge
Go up like vertical doors - vertical hinge
Rotate about 90* - rotation hinge

If you could find a hinge setup where you would be able to all three of these at once, then it's do-able, and one more thing:

I'd Hit it :thumb:

That is sweet. Ive never seen that. Would look terrible on our cars IMO though...

I've done suicide and lambo doors.... NOT FUN. I won't do it to my car, unless I get the stuff for free, because of the pain in the ass they are. Getting the doors to line up after the new hinge is on, is very hard. Getting into a very custom job like that, would just end up in you either being broke, or having a dent in your door and still being on stock hinges.

it would be slick, but i dont think it would be feasable price wise.....but hey, with a welder some steel and enough know how, anything is possible

Atleast you wouldn't have to crawl in under the door that doesn't swing up far enough to allow easy entry. Lambo doors just don't look practical imo. Looks like it'd be a pain to get in the car. :thumbdown

I love lambo doors :thumb: but im 6'5 so anyone who has them think i could get in there with them??

i personally think our 1g's would look killer with gullwing doors, like on those deloreans. i also wouldnt mind a 1g with t-tops, but there is the problem with the top of the window frame

I for one would not like to crawl under my door to get in. They look cool, yes, but not very practical.

there are gullwing 1gs that came like that from the factory, they do look hott :thumb:

edit: IDEA:

what if you put a strong hinge where the window frame levels off, and then another by the mirror, so it would essentially rotate about the a-pillar, i wonder if the a-pillar would be able to hold the door though.

As far as it being factory, that's debatable. To the best of my knowledge, a handful of the 1Gs were converted by the company that imported them into Japan. If I could read Japanese, I might have a bit better idea though.

All you people who think lambo doors are a pain to get into, have obviously never tried. The door will swing open to about the first resting point before it swings up. Tall has nothing to do with it, fat on the other hand does.

though im very against any funky(in my opinon)door alterations and what not,the gullwings are cool as heck.

i would liek to see a closeup of the roof on those cars...i dont see how that would be possible without some funky looking reinforced hinge area on the roof...would be a sweet conversion for 1 gs though

Import Precision has a kit that kinda goes sideways, and they open in both ways, 'Lambo' style and 'OEM'. But you do have to push them up a little, when you want to use the Lambo style.
