Manual tranny whine??

OK i have a manual 95 gst and i have a strange but short whining noise. Heres how it happens. First of all it Will not make the noise while I'm not in gear. Next the whining noise sounds exactly like any manual car that goes into reverse, you know that whirr noise when u back up. My car is doing this noise in 1,2nd and 3rd but it seems to only happen when i let off the gas abruptly then for just a few seconds you can hear it. this is not a small noise i can hear it really good. Ive tried pinpointing it and i seemed to have got it around the tranny area. So am i looking at a new transmission soon or could it be that i need to change the fluid.

I would say checking/changing the fluid would be the very first thing to do. VFAQ has instructions on how to do it, as well as your Haynes manual....you do have one right?

I'm having the exact same problem as of today. When I come to a stop with the car in neutral I can "hear" the tranny whirring down. It sounds exactly like going into reverse except in forward gears. Gonna get the tranny juice changed asap.

Mine does the same thing too, it's been doing it for a while, never really paid any attention to it. I have, unfortunately, Redline MTL in my tranny, I need to swap it for some BG 2, I recommend you do the same.

mine does that too, but when i excelerate and i can only hear it for a little bit until the exhaust out does everythng else. i may be alittle low on fluid b/c i have a leaky axle seal.

The axle seals dont have anything to do with the tranny fluid.

would you like to come and take a look at my axle seals? they are definaly leaking, they arent just there for decoration.

Try taking your axles out without draining anything, what comes out? Anyways, my friend has a 240sx with a worn throw out bearing, it wines when he lets the clutch out, anything like that?
