I did a search on this but they did have what mine is doing. When my car is cold is grinds into first everyonce in a while. It goes in fine but grinds as it goes in. When it is warmed up it doesn't do this. I also grinds it to second unless I wait a sec before I put it in to gear. It doesn't grind any others. would replacing the oil help? As far as I know it has never been changed. Also should I change the t-case and rear differential fluid? What should I change it with? I have a 90 gsx.

Thanks

mine does the exact same thing..........i've been told to get a new master and slave clutch cyl, to check the fluid and to bleed and/or tighten clutch play.

anyone else have any input on this??? any info is greatly appreciated. thanks.

Grab some bg synchroshift and see if that helps. While you're down there it wouldn't hurt to change the other oils as well. To check the master and slave, juts pull back the little boot and see if it's leaking any fluid, if it is swap them out and bleed the system real good. If you think it's a clutch problem, check your clutch spin down time by putting it into fist, rolling a bit, engage the clutch, stop, and put it in reverse, try to do this quickly....not putting it in reverse while you're rolling, of course. If it grinds going into reverse your clutch might not be spinning down fast enough, to fix that just adjust the nut on the master cylinder.

that sounds like a good solution........can you maybe explain that a little more in depth? i'm kinda new to the whole clutch system.

my car likes to grind into 1st if you're moving (at all) and grinds 2nd if you shift anything other than slowly. it has grinded reverse once or twice, but......... where exactly is the nut you're refering to? what does it do? much appreciated.

sorry to jack your post Trevor90GXT but this may also apply to you.

that's the nut I'm talking about, adjust it but make sure you have enough freeplay at the top, if it still does it, adjust the shifter, like so....

but, seriously, try the fluid, we drained the fluid from my friends 92 awd, and it came out in glops....it was really gross, and it had that nasty tranny oil smell, only worse.

your clutch will grind into reverse only if 1) you're clutch isn't fully disengaged or 2) you're moving when you put it into reverse 3) your tranny is totally horked, probably not that last one. All 1 g trannies that were original that I have come into contact with grind in one gear or another, even if you change the gear oil.....might be time for a rebuild if it's not anything listed above.

well, as of today, i couldn't get into reverse for the longest while. 1st and 2nd still grinds on a hard up or downshift. if i do it easily and slowly (letting the revs drop) it usually is fine.

sounds to me like the side to side adjustment might be off, from what you said. im gonna order some bg synch and adjust the shifter. i also ordered a new master and slave cyl, so i should have them in 2 days. hopefully thats all she needs.

offhand, do you know a ballpark for a tranny rebuild? not replacing gears and all, but synch and in/output bearings and maybe t/o bearing, etc. i was directed to the dealer by aamco, so.......$$$. lemme know what you think of all this. thanks.

that place looks awesome, however, i dont have the funds for that plus shipping to/from, AND a place to take it out and put it back in. $$$$$. i need a local place, really. thanks for that tho.

so, what does it sound like to you? syncros/gears or needs shifter adj and clutch cylinders? (as well as some good ol BG) i appreciate your help.
