I just purchased a MBC and I have plans on fiberglassing in a Boost Gauge under my CD player, I was just wondering if I could mount the Boost Controller beside it with any problems, or if it would be a waste of time etc.

It'd be tough routing vaccum line in, and back out of the car without kinking anywhere, and it seems to me like the longer the hose on something like that, the less effiencient it is, as air has to travel through it for it to function.

Thats what i was worried about as well...I could wrap the hose in wireloom to give it rigidity, but i was wondering about the accuracy of the controller.

thanks

They make special MBC's for in car use. A normal one will work but not as well. Running that much vacuum line poses a lot of problem's. Getting it close to something to hot, breaking it, there are too many problems with trying it with a normal one.

An MBC isn't something you dial up and down to get uber power when you need it. You use it to set the boost level, and never touch it again.
Running a ball-and-spring through that much vacuum line will ameliorate the signal too much.

It sounds like what you're looking for is an electronic boost controller. It will go alot better with your plans.

TurboXS makes a 2 stage MBC. Defiant is right about it being something you set and never touch, but if you have 2 settings and flip a swtich in between the 2, then there is no problem.

This should allow you to set one for daily driving/ mpg (5psi) and one for stupid boost (20psi) or whatever fits your needs.

Dont have the cash for an electronic, I was just wanting something to kinda show in my dash since I dont have anything else for the car other than a boost guage soon. But my easiest bet seems to be just keep in the engine bay, which is fine.

Thanks for all the replies though, it makes things alot easier on me!

Hallman also makes a cockpit mbc, I have it and it works great. I do not recommend using a normal one for reasons already mentioned by many. If it works well, most people would be doing it by now.

The longer the line is, the longer it takes the wastegate to recieve a "signal" from the boost controller, thus allowing a boost spike. Once the "signal" is received, it will correct itself.

Well put. Sounds like the reason why you want your boost controller mounted in the cabin is because you may want to frequently change your boost levels, correct? I just set mine once and that's all. In your case, save up and buy an electronic boost controller and in the mean time, do the free mod to your boost solenoid if you haven't already.

I wanted it in my dash just because i was going to fiberglass in a boost gauge under my deck, and didnt want it looking so lonely, But its no big deal to leave it in the engine bay, just thought it might be kinda cool to have sitting there in the cabin.
