manual boost control question??

i know how a manual boost control works,but my question is could i not just use a low psi air valve and set it at the boost level that i want eg. 17psi and set it to that so it will only allow flow of 17psi?

I would say you have two different concepts confused. If you allow a constant flow of air (no matter how minute) you're going to be dumping boost.

Most MBC use a ball and spring check valve set up. the spring keeps the ball seated until enough boost is made to compress the spring and unseat the check ball. Then your wastegate starts to open.

Long story short I don't believe your compromise will work.

but its the same thing isnt it because no matter what the car has to build a certian amount of boost weather or not it uses a bearing and spring or a velve that allows a certian amount of flow because no matter how you look at it 17 psi is still getting in the engine right?
