I have been researching the different exhaust manifolds for replacement of the unreliable 1g manifold. I'm planning on building my car for mostly track use(turns not so much drag) so I plan on going with a EVO III big 16G. but I was wondering what manifold is best to go with? I have read that the more expensive tubular manifolds are mostly over rated as far as power goes. But I have also read that a ported 2g manifold is the way to go I've also heard the EVO III manifold is the way to go. what are the differences between the two? is there any difference in air flow? or crack/heat resistance? and can you buy the 2g or EVO III manifold already ported?

I think going with the ev0316g+ the evo3 mani would be a nice combo, there allready made for eachother. Unless you are going to port out the turbo.. even then i would think going with the evo mani would still net the best match up. JMHO sounds like fun any witch way you dice it. :thumb:

slowboyracing has a really nice high flow manifold. i found out about it after i already got a ported 2g manifold from Machv.com its a very night piece. i would have bought the one from slow boy however its the biggest one i've ever seen

I would definatly have to agree with getting the EVO III mani with that turbo. I have a ported EVO III mani I got from buschur, love it!

The slow boy manifold will bolt up to the stock turbo and the EVO III turbo correct?

i think it should but i'm no expert. In my opinion the slow boy manifold looks like its an awesome piece its def. bigger then the other two. you would have to look at the website and i would call to make sure it would fit. can't hurt to call i always do before i order just to make sure.

Heh. Unreliable? For only lasting through a decade of near-crystalization temperatures?
Cheap or not, DSMs are absolute marvels for what they endure.

If one is not having issues with the stocko... should replacing it be considered in the early stages of modding?

I too plan on going with a B16G.. already have a 3" Turboback and an Evo III O2 housing. Im ordering a ton of parts (Sway Bars, Big Brake Kit, FMIC, Intake pipe, Injectors, possibly Cams and gears, Fuel mods along with some management system be it piggy back or stand alone (depending on what the tuner I am going to use recommends for what I want to achieve), etc.).

So my question is... should I get an Evo III Mani while I am at it... to have all three parts of that setup?

I am sold on the SBR Mani.. my question now is... Should I get it ported for the $50? DO I order it with the pretapped wastegate hole? I am on a 14B and plan on staying internally gated if possible ( I need to read up on the pros and cons of internal and external gating :( )

Anyone have any good threads?

i too have been considering this thread, but i would like to get an external waste gate (because it holds boost better and allows for less creepage..) but i cannot find a wastegate on sbr's site, if anyone has a link that would be great, also i would like the external re routed to the o2 housing, and cannot find one that is made for that manifold mounted external wastegate (i believe their site says its made for a tial 38 mm wastegate...)

If you do plan on going with a bigger turbo i would say external.

theres more all you have to do is search "internal external wastegate" and you will find a bunch

So does that mean I should wait until I upgrade my Turbo to buy the manifold... Get the bigger turbo, manifild and external wastegate all at once? Otherwise I cant use the same Mani that I buy to use with my internally gated 14B with an External Gated turbo? Can a plug be put in the hole that is tapped in the meantime?

You can do that. Just have a block-off plate made for the external gate flange. If it was me I'd also port the 14B to suit the larger exhaust manifold port for better flow.

... Acutally if it was me, I'd wait and do the turbo and manifold at the same time

saves like 20 bucks for gasket+bolts, if your old bolts dont work... but im sure you can do the manifold first, (what ill probably do),....

does anyone know about where to get an external wastegate and o2 housing that will work with the sbr manifold?

I am leaning towards that option... just get the turbo and the mani at the same time.

Just a word of advice for all you new SBR manifold owners. It would be wise to purchase a longer manifold stud kit or make your own. The SBR manifold has a thicker flange than the 2G and EVO and you might have a hard time getting the nuts to stay on while driving. Mine kept vibrating right off.

I know this is the case on the older version SBR manifolds, I still believe the flange is thicker on the new ones too. But just in case, ask them if they have the thicker flange before you order or else you might have to take everything off again later on.
