I have pulled off my exhaust manifold, Turbo, and O2 housing. Had to pull them off because I needed to replace my O2 sensor and it was rounded off, so needed to pull that stuff off to get off the O2 sensor.

Well since I have it all off I figure it is a good time to clean and possibly port. I have a 90 Talon and it is the stock exhaust manifold, Turbo, and O2 housing. I am wondering what work I should do while I have all the parts off the car. I have a dremel so I can port out some stuff.

The exhaust manifold has a little lip on the inside of it, can I take that lip out, can I do anything else with it? I know the 1g exhaust manifold is prone to cracking, but can I at least take out that little lip or anything else.

Turbo is the stock 14b I am pretty sure, the compressor housing says TD05H. Can I safely port the compressor or turbo housing at any point?

O2 housing, what should I be porting out here? Just go nuts and open it all up?

Thanks for all your help guys!

porting with a dremal is hard to do.. use a carbide bit. yes u can remove the lip and middle of the mani part. get a new o2 gasket and gasket match port the turbo and o2 houseing.

smooth out any casting inperfections

good luck

just for example's sake...

porting with dremel and bit = 15 hours
porting with die grinder and carbide bit = 4-5 hours..

same results.. but with a die grinder you can actually feel your hand afterwards :p

port EVERYTHING on the o2... just make sure you dont make the walls too thing.. port only the COLLECTOR side of your mani [remove the lip and grind down the wall a bit ] .. and port your wastegate area :thumb:

Thanks for the advise guys.
Can I port any part of the compressor housing? Maybe the compressor outlet?
I am gonna polish the outside of the compressor, just make it look good.
The turbo I am gonna port out the intake and exhaust portion of the turbo section.
The O2 housing I am gonna port everything on it.
Decided to borrow my buddies grinder, so that should speed things up.

So does anyone know where I can get a 2 1/2" mandrel bent SS downpipe without paying like $250?

Hopupracing.com has Apexi 3" mandrel bent downpipes for $186 before shipping. I personally went with a punishment racing 2.5" downpipe, and punishment racing o2 housing with an external dump. Great product for the price.

:talon:

just make sure everything is nice and smooth and isnt all hacked up. If at any time you get confused on what you should take away or grind there is a decent write up on www.vfaq.com about porting. It covers the basics and what not...nothing to extreme. And make sure you pay really good attention to the wastegate area its really important.

if i where you i would invest in a 2g exhaust manifold while the stuff is off if you have some extra cash and can have the car down until you can get one.

good luck

Yeah, I would love to upgrade exaust manifold, but money is really tight and the downpipe is gonna hurt. So the exhaust manifold will wait. It comes off really easy though, so taking it off again isn't really a big deal.
