Ok I have a 97 gsx I have posted some stuff about this before with no luck at all when I drive NORMAL overf like 50 mph and stop and look at my manifold if is glowing red! That is not normal! My a/f ration full throttle is in the 11's idle amd normal driving is 14.8 tp 15.0 I have replaced me fuel pump, injectors, no cat so it can be clogged, brand new big 16g, now what esle can it be the only other thing I have recently noticed is that now full throttle it will break up my a/f ratio are percfect when is breaks up so I closed the gap on my spark plugs and it still breaks up is my timing messed up or something ignition because my fuel pump an injectors are is basically brand new...this may be the dumbest question but I have an intercooler from that cxracing place and right after I put it on is when I noticed this all is it that fake intercooler doing this I know its a dumb question but I have had it with this car!!!!!!!!!!!

Steel will glow above about 1300 degrees. Do you have an EGT gauge? My Talon shows about 1350 after a few seconds of nominal boost.

The following color chart is from Heat & Temperature for forging steel but will be close.

hot = lean.... fuel is a coolant also. Do some reading viprez, clearly you have not done any carb tuning at the track.

Too much advance can also cause the engine to run hot, and it could fry your head and pistons.

Rich can also cause the manifold to glow.

And timing being too far retarded will make the manifold glow just as much (if not more) than being advanced.

I think the big question is WHERE is it glowing.

Runners going to the head glowing = bad. Slight red glow on the manifold right above the turbo is normal.

When I was glowing, it was a timing issue. Lifter tick mixed with a bad knock sensor was causing my timing to be pulled like crazy. After a short drive on the freeway, My manifold would also be glowing. I replaced the knock sensor and switched to Mobil 1 synthetic and it helped immensely. I still need to switch to 3g lifters, but the tick is much less severe and much less often.

Glowing towards the collector but it has a slight glow back up towards the runners. but is bright orange on the turbo and the o2 housing is also bright also. the other day it was so hot by the collector was that the bolt holding the heat shield on was glowing also.

Try checking out your EGR and see if it's stuck open. My Chrysler Conquest had the same issue. Normal driving, glowing manifold. So I eliminated the EGR and that went away. Something about it being open and the o2 sensor reading more oxygen (lean condition) which will make the ECU add more fuel. Does that make sense to you??

EGR's SOLE purpose as an emissions related device is to reduce/prevent the production of oxides of nitrogen. However with EGR stuck open, the car will idle horribly and may even stall out. Your o2 sensor trace patterns will not be affected by EGR operation as it directs spent exhaust gases to dilute the incoming a/f mixture. Those gases cannot be ignited and therefore will not make the o2 read "more oxygen":thumb:

Stick a exhaust gas analyzer in your tailpipe and see what your readings look like. You would be surprised by how much 4-5 gases can help aid in your diagnostics.
