I have this problem, and I would think its not right, but something Defiant said kind of confused me.

I have been working on tuning my car for a while, and everytime I come in from a ride, I pop the hood and the exhaust manifold is glowing red hot. I keep ajusting the crap out of the timing thinking its too advanced, but it never changes anything. my coolant didnt ever overheat and my oil is new and full.

The only thing I can think of that would cause a problem is that the knock sensor got fipped out so I have to replace that tonight.

I ask about the ex. mani. cause Defiant said in another tread that if you take a long pull up a hill at night in a 1g, then u can pop the hood and go oooooo....

Set your base timing to 5 deg. like stock.

Retarded timing will actually cause the mani to get hotter as you are leaving more energy in the exhaust by lighting the mixture later.

There's nothing wrong with a glowing manifold. Happens all the time on turbo cars and sometimes on NA's.
