making the right tranny choice

hey I've been searching for a tranny for my 1g and came out these choices but I dont know much about tranny internals and need some help making the right choice , the prices are fairly close. One choice is Pina Motorsports and sheps . here are the facts they gave me .

I have been to Shep's shop. That guy knows his stuff. I will be awaiting to get mine rebuilt there, it's about a 52 minute drive. The transmissions my buddies have got there are the real deal.

but is it the real deal or is it just the reputation they have? like i said i don't know sh#t about tranny internals . and would like someone to compare them please.

He had a different one (name I won't say) and after only 2 gears, was going bad. He ended up taking it to Shep and got his new one there.

My buddies 12.6 sec Talon has been running on a Stage 1 shep tranny now for 4 years. No issues!

The pina motorsports tranny does not come with double syncro 2nd gear.

It looks to me that you have to pay an extra $450 for the double syncro 2nd gear.

the shep trans is an excellent trans,I have stage 2.the selling point for me is costomer service.If i can't call and talk to someone if i have an issue with there product i will not use there service.Jon at Shep Trans answered all the questiions i had regarding my old trans before it broke.The guy who built the other one wouldn't even answer an e-mail,let alone a phone call.

These two are not your only options. Personally, I recommend TRE. I had them build the tranny in my Talon and i'm sending the tranny out of my Laser to them next week.
