I was doin some highway runs earlier today boostin pretty high. When i got off the highway my engine started sounding really weird. No my engine is completly ####ed. When i start it it sound like a lawnmower, it idles at about 400rpms, i can barely drive. when i try to drive i have absolutely no power and my whole car shakes like it is going to fall apart. i have no boost. I had to drive home and i got it to 60 on the highway and i hit 5lbs but it took me like 5 mins to get to that. i have no idea what the problem is somebody please help. Mods: big 16g, fully built engine, 680 injectors, 255 fuel pump, evo3 manifold, car is also running rich

Check oil for signs of metal, check spark plugs and do a engine compression test. If the compression is still good but the sound is still there you could have a rod bearing out. Sorry to hear about your luck man. Hopefully it just ends up being something simply. Never is with these cars though. Where you having any knock when doing your runs? Were you datalogging at the time?

did you check to make sure your getting spark to all four cylinders . i had a coil on my 92 and it was pretty much the same

Have you done a boost leak check? Sounds like your loosing a lot of metered air somewhere, like you blew a connector off or something like that. At the very least do a close visual inspection of your post-turbo intake system, as it sounds like you have a very large leak. If nothing comes up from that, do a compression test a mentioned above. By sounding like a lawnmower, do you mean it's just loud and idling rough, or something worse?

no i wasn't data logging, and no rod knock when doing the runs?

Hey I didn't even realize you live soo close to me LOL If you need a compression gauge or boost leak test let me know. Good luck bro

Well does your engine sound like it's "clanking around" more of a metal on metal sound or is it just running really poorly? Might have had detention in one or more of your cylinders and ruined some valves

idk its hard to explain it sounds like some kind of intake problem like its not getting enough air but a REALLY bad intake problem. the best way i can describe it is it sound like a lawnmower. - literally

ugh nevermind that was a really retarded question... i'm drunk as #### right now....

Sounds like a spark plug issue. Normally I would say to check your intercooler couplers to see if they blew off but since you checked, i guess their is no point. Do a boost leak test anyway, youd be surprised. Normally if the engine is on its way out, you will hear a metal on metal type of noise, anything from clanking/knocking/grinding in the engine. Start the car up, rev the car steadily to about 1500-2000 rpm, if your engine is going you will hear knocking/clanking/grinding noise increasing with rpms.

Edit: While you were doing these highway pulls, you didnt misshift did you? Its also possible you might have some bent valves if that was the case.

no i didn't miss any shifts. It's something wrong with 1 cylinder. i turned on the car and pulled each spark plug one at a time. all spark plugs make the car shut off when they are pulled expect 1 so i changed it and it still does the same thing.

I would run a compression test on cylinder 1, if you don't have the compression gauge, I believe autozone will let you borrow one for free. With their "loan a tool" program. I am guessing it's a burnt out exhaust valve. I actually had the same thing happen in my 91 gsx. Sounded like a lawn mower as well when it happend to me.

ya i'm not sure what it is and i don't have the time to take apart my block so i'm gonna take it to buschur racing on monday and see what they have to say about it. - still pissed as #### though

Check your coilpack for the hell of it. If you know someone with a DSM, borrow it for a few seconds to see if anything changes. And oh, check your firing order of your wires, on your coilpack from left to right the order is 4 1 2 3. If all else fails, start checking your fuel, maybe a stuck injector or a bad fuel pump.

wouldn't cylinders 1 & 4 not spark if the coil pack is bad?? there are only 2 coil packs on my car and i get a spark from cylinder 4 not from cylinder 1 though

actually i think that it might be the coil pack now. I thought cylinder 4 was sparking but now cylinder 1 & 4 are not sparking and cylinder 2&3 are sparking so im guessing it prob is the coil pack

Glad to hear you got her running good again. Like i said, bad coil packs are common to cause the problems you were having.
