what wire do i hook the white wire from the maft to on the cam angle sensor.2nd or 4th (from back of motor to front)

I hooked mine up to the rpm wire that is in the harness by the ignition plug by the time belt.

If you are NOT fully tuned and ready for rpm tuning do not put the wire on.
I have mine on but also put a switch on it to turn it on and off.

I just wired in a maft yesterday on my 1992 talon...It's a non turbo but i have been told it would work, just had to read a lot of wiring diagrams and splice everything. Now that it's on i'm having a lot of trouble tuning it...granted until two minutes ago i didn't know what size injectors i had (450's)...anyway, my question is, the post above this said not to connect the cas wire until i am ready to do rpm mode...could that cause an issue tuning it?

Yes this can cause issues tuning as the maf will be using the rpm signal to get its reading instead of hz, I had issues with mine when mine was not tuned and the instant i unhooked it my car ran alot better and once i got it tuned up i hooked it back up for the rpm tuning.

Just my 2 cents give it a try and see for your self

You are a little mistaken I believe. I hooked mine up when I did the MAFT install. The only way the rpm wire is used is if you are in WOT RPM MODE, dip switch 4 flipped. Otherwise the MAFT is in normal tuning mode. Once you get all that dialed in close. You turn off the ignition and wait 20 seconds to be safe. You then flip dip switch 4 on and 0 out you settings. You are now in WOT RPM tuning mode where the adjustments are in 2% increments instead of 5% increments. And the MAFT fine tunes for when WOT is detected and it adds additional compensation based on your RPM at the given points. I hope that made sense.

To recap:

HOOK UP THE RPM WIRE. :thumb: As long as dip switch 4 is off, you will have NO tuning issues unless you hooked something else up wrong in the first place. :p

2nd wire from the back on the CAS. previus post has it correct! mark

I appreciate your quote from the instructions but having installed the maft and tuned it on over 20 cars we have come to the conclusion that my previous post has merit.
And I agree that that is the way its "SUPPOSE"to work but just like there are differences in dsm cars there are quarks in the maft translators too so if you have ruled out the other possible issues in the car then my statement may be able to correct the issue.

My personal car had this issue and now that the car is tuned fully in rpm mode the issue is no longer there.

And any time that you TAP a wire you are diverting some of its currant away from its destination, the diversion may be low but non the less it is still there. This is why WE choose to tap the rpm wire on the ignition side as the only function for the wire is to run the RPM guage so the minor diversion taken from that wire will in no way cause adverse effects or have the chance too. Taking the signal away from the cas in some cases could effect over all performace so again please think your answers through before you quote them as facts.

With all that said have a happy Turkey Day

Interesting, that is the first I have ever heard that. If in fact what you are saying does have merit, than hopefully he will try it out and get his problem taken care of. Sorry to dismiss your method so quickly. Any numbers on that setup in you car?
