My car is running way too rich on 550s and walboro 255. I installed the maft translator to at least have it run like stock until I get the 6bolt swap done in which I will be running on DSMlink. I installed it for the blow through setup. The car turns on fine and idles great at around 800 rpms(before I had massive idle surge). However, it seems to even run richer than before when I press the gas. At around 2 or 3k rpm the car stumbles alot and shoots out alot of black smoke. The knobs on the translator don't seem to be doing anything. The green light keeps blinking and when I turn the knobs there seems to be no change. Anyone might know what is wrong? THanks

chances are that you are over running your fuel pressure regulator. get an after market one so you can keep you fuel pressure around 44psi and youll be set. I had the same problem, with the same set up 550's and the 255hp. now I run an aeromotive fpr 950 fic's and a dsm link with the maft.

No offense, but it sounds like to me that your car isn't set/tuned right or the translator was installed wrong. I have the maft in blow thru with 660cc walbro 255lph and no afpr, and I'm not blowing black smoke. It's very easy to get things out of tune, especially if your are running larger than stock injectors.

Make sure you have the translator installed properly. Do you have the rpm wire hooked up. In the instructions, what does it say for a blinking green light; I forget. When you make changes on the knobs, does the red led blink to acknowledge the change. Have you tried setting the bas to 550's, or even 1 click leaner like the newer instructions have said. Do you have a pocketlogger to look at short term fuel trims.

My guess is that you have the base set at 450 even though you're running 550's, or you meant to set it to 550's but turn the wrong knob instead of the base knob (I personally have done that). Or your idle and base knobs are just way out of wack.

I think the blinking green light means its at either idle or mid throttle mode (correct if I'm wrong) I dont' have any other upgraded fuel mods, but I have blow through set-up as well and it didn't run that great right after I installed it until I reset the ECU. Might help, who knows. Also, the green LED is supposed to be DIM just at idle, to let you know its working, and as posted before the red LED confirms a dial change. If there's a problem with the unit, it has internal trouble codes that will blink out through one of the LEDs after power-up. There is a code chart in the instructions

My car did the same thing. With the Translator plugged in and
the MAF sensor itself unplugged the car would do the same
thing. The car revved fine on the stock MAF with the SAFC
leaned out 40% (I have 850s). I assumed I screwed up the
translator when I tried starting my car with some connectors
plugged in incorrectly. So I ordered a new eprom for the
translator and after it was installed the car still did the
same thing (pig rich, would not rev above 3k or so). I thought
it was just tuning but playing with the knobs on the translator
yeilded no changes in how the car was running. I finally
learned how to use my pocketlogger and I checked the airflow
and there was no airflow reading. After some additional
troubleshooting with a multimeter my cousin was able to
determine the MAF was not producing any signal. Swapped in a
new MAF and problem solved. Hope this helps!

Nos~4g63...you said that it ran the same even with the translator unplugged from the maft? I tried doing the same thing but then the whole car just shut off after a few seconds. I'm hoping that its a bad maft and not the translator itself.

The factory MAF connecotr plugged into the translator; with the translator unplugged from the GM maf. I un-plugged the translator box from the factory MAF connector the car would start and surge to 2k then stall. Do you have a logger? When I first suspected it was the sensor itself I borrowed my friends off his 94' LT1 and the car had the same symptoms (would not rev over 4k, adjusting the trans did not make a difference) so the best way to test if its the sensor is with a logger.
Good Luck!
