91 Eclipse GSX Auto. Stock except for MBC (10psi) and boost gauge. 7500 mi. on rebuilt motor.
With the MAF plugged in the car runs badly. Very slow and unresponsive off boost and bogging, lurching, stuttering on boost, blows black smoke all over the place. Also, the stock boost gauge (I know) shows 14 psi at 10-15% throttle, while my Autometer shows 0. Did some voltmeter testing and concluded that the MAF is dead. 500+ ohms on the ground wire, nothing on the airflow signal wire, IAT at 350+ ohms. Unplug the MAF and the car is drivable, no cold start, sluggish and horrible gas milage but drivable. Oh yeah, this is the 3rd MAF I've put on the car in the last few weeks.
I figured it was a grounding issue shorting the MAF, so I checked all of the ground wires for looseness, corrosion, resistance, etc... nada. I also replaced the battery terminals just as a precaution. Opened the ECU and found no evidence of leaking caps or burnt traces, everything looked normal. I'm kind of at a loss right now. Probably didn't get three bad MAFS in a row (possible but unlikely). ECU seems fine, grounds are good...
What am I missing?
Thanks in advance for any ideas or insigts that you guys can offer.
