This is for a I4 cylinder.

Bearings will be around $200, or just under . Plus gaskets, seals ect.

Any known work need to be done to the head? We don't know about the belt, tensioned, oil pump, water pump ect. So all we can really quote is
minimum and maximum until the engine is inspected.

Short block labor prices: our hourly rate is::
- $100 per hour.
Disassemble, clean and initial inspection: 6 hours
Blueprint and build: 12 hours.

machine work prices are as follows::

- Block decking [perhead] = $85.00

- Crank line hone [min] = $165.00
- Crank line bore [min] = $215.00

- Cylinder Hone [4cyl] = #300.00

- Polish crank = $110.00

- Valve grind [4cyl] = $200.00

I know this sounds a little high... What do u guys think

IMO, If you don't have a machine shop that you frequent often or one that is close to you, Then I'd just buy a short-block already done from someone. Prices like that are way to subjective to the condition of what you have. Since your not sure, they could tell you anything once you send it to them.
A good shop will not do anything until you drop off the block. Which you should strip down yourself. They will magnaflux it and charge you $50 - $100. If the block is no good, no one has to wast their time and you know you need a new block. If the block is good, you can now either get a direct quote from them and other shops to compare.
But if you have never done anything like this before and don't have any one to directly help you along. Get the built short block, even if it's an extra $500. Youll be glad you did in the long run...

If you do the math above, your looking at $2500 and they haven't even mentioned parts yet. You'd be lucky if you got out of it under $5k...

Good luck!:thumb:

them prices are high as heck i would check with a diff. shop if i was you. Mine is at the shop now and getting most of the same stuff you are but no where near that price $110.00 for the crank ouch:cry:

those prices are close to double what I pay my trusted machine shop. I understand that a good shop is hard to find.

My suggestion is get some small stuff done, talk to the guy - have him do a fun project for you and have a few more come in. Get in good with him and then get the 'buddy discount' It was worked for me.

Well i took the block apart, hot tanked it myslef and Mic'd it. It pretty much needs .020 over. No cracks or damage to the block. I know for a fact that there is no way its going to cost me 2500 to get the parts, engine machined and put back together. This is my first time building my first engine but i know about about rebuilding and how to reinstall everything back togeter. I was just looking for a ball park quote on how much i might be looking for machining.

I just had my head hot tanked and bead blasted. Next i will do the 3 angle valve job and a nice port and polish. I will use the stock Intake manifold and port match it. i will also use a Turbular exhaust Manifold.

Thanks guys.
