first i have searched, second the problem my car i have just recently started tuning on link, now i can not seem to keep the lugs on my front wheels tight i have changed my lug nuts and studs from the stealership and then lock tighted the crap out of them, tourqued them down to 90ft lbs, and after one pull they are all coming off again on my front wheels, any help?

What wheels are you running by chance. Also I'd torque to 110 ft.lbs for aluminum wheels and 90 for steel. Are you sure the wheel is sitting centered on the hub and flat against the rotor.

If you replaced the studs, make sure they have been pulled all the way through. Even with 90ft/lbs they might not be seated all the way flush. This can be seen from behind the tire, behind the hub of course..

Yeah I would go with the studs not set right. I always take an old bolt that is open on both ends and use an impact to seat them properly with the wheel off. I've had to use an 8 ft pole on my breaker bar to seat some dodge one ton studs. No a fun job.

True that. 1 ton dualies gotta love em.

Yeah this was a 1ton v10 with the Dana 60 front and Dana 70 rear axles. You you the ones where the rotor goes behind the hub in the front. What a piss poor design if I ever seen it.

are your lug nuts the stock ones. i know alot of guys like to upgrade to "tuner" lugs that take a special socket or key like a 9 point key. if they arent the correct style on the end that sits against the rim they will do that.. i think its supposed to be cone shaped but its been awhile since i had to switch to my stockers..

The real problem with switching to "tuner" lug-nuts when you have stock wheels is that the stock wheels are flat/shoulder-type (aka Mag Seat) and all "tuner" lug-nuts that I've seen are tapered (aka conical or acorn) or ball-type. If the OP has been using "tuner" lug-nuts on OE wheels, that needs to stop right now.

i have changed my lug nuts and studs from the stealership
so that's assuming he is using oem, op please clarify. Also I still think you should torgue 110ft.lb and can you also verify studs are seated all the into hub.

Agreed.

If I had to guess - which we're not supposed to do - then I'd say that whoever replaced the studs didn't seat them all the way. The odds of it being lug-nuts is low, since the problem is only occurring at one end of the car and even the Great Unwashed doesn't use different lug-nuts at opposite ends of a car.

And, having swapped studs on these cars, I can say that it's not difficult to fail to seat new studs completely. It went beyond the highest reading on my torque-wrench (which was something like 200) before a few of them decided to settle in completely.

And that could cause his problems how?

I work for toyota: Ironically the day before I read this post, a customer kept coming back every 1000 miles because all of their lugnuts in the front kept coming off/loose. Had my tech look at it and the cause was from the axle nut being loose. 1st I had heard of it myself, but I dont argue with this tech, he knows his stuff! Im assuming the loose nut allowed the hub/spindle to move slightly back and forth, and the vibration on the studs while the hub moved allowed them to slowly work themselves out. Its a long shot, but I saw it with my own eyes!

That's makes no sense at all, but, if it happened, then it reveals a flaw in my understanding of things. And there's only two things to do with a flaw in my understanding of cars: fix it or blame it on Dennis. And Dennis isn't here. So let me get back to you on this....

IF you have physically worked on the hubs on these cars than you will understand how absurd this theory is. The Wheel bearing will work itself apart and destroy the bearing and your wheel and hub assembly will fall off FAR before the lug nuts back off magically somehow.
