hey sup, i was just wondering if anyone had anything good to say about a product called Lucas oil stabilzer... its basicly a think snot thats supposed to thinkin your oil i believe... well thanks for any input.
:dsm:

I use it when I have the extra money for it. I use Mobel 1 10W-30, and recently tried 15W-50. The point of me using it is to thicken the sythetic oil. The came out with a synthetic Lucas Oil additive, so you might want to check that out if you use syntheic oils. When added to your oil, the oil feels far "slicker" with it in. In theory slicker means: less resistance (less engine part wear), less friction-less heat....but then again its thicker so thats another variable in the whole mess. I have never seen and test results or study done on Lucas. When I get my new front cover I probably wont use it anymore, I dont see a use for it in my eyes other than its thickening ability.

None of oil's work can be determined with your fingers.

Someone on here was cussing Lucas up a blue streak.

Oil additives haven't advanced any from the days of Andy Granatelli's Studebaker Testing Products (STP)- ragweed oil.

Castrol stopped using castor oil as an additive in the early seventies. Pity, because it had a very interesting smell as it burned..... and since there were so many British race cars, it burned a lot.... other than what just dripped onto the ground.

For reasons far beyond my comprehension, DSMs seem to like RESTORE, or are horribly threatened by it- for either reason, may cease tapping their lifters when treated to it.

I've not heard of Lucas making a car explode. Other than that, I don't much speak to it.

I don't use additives, I don't use synthetics, and I run oil about 10K. My Datsun 2000 has lived through that for 250,000 miles, the '93 did 130K, the Datsun 200SX Turbo did 170K, and the 95's at 90K. So my opinion won't be swaying much.

last month I watched 2 guys and a garage, they did I small segment on some of these additives. First they took a baseline dyno of a camaro ss, registered 300.4 hp to the rear wheels. Next they drained the car of every fluid other than brake, from the differentials, to the power steering to the engine oil with some shit I can't remember the name of, all said and done on the same dyno an hour later, same temperatures and so on it put down 3008hp. Wouldn't have believed it if i didn't see it with my own eyes. lemme see if i can find this product name for referance........

Wow a 2708 HP gain just from Some Oil OMG

Yeah that's possible. Thinner oil is easier to push and it lets the engine create the slightest bit more power, but in general, thinner oil protects less.

I used Lucas for two oil changes along with Mobile 1 syn 10w-30 before my recent head gasket job. The small leak at my oil pan went away along with that pesky lifter tick. I used Mobile 1 syn 10w-30 with no additives prior to that so the only variable changed was the Lucas additive. Just my experience...

Ive used it before but I wont anymore. It didnt do anything wrong but its not gonna help either. i run 5W50 castrol syntec. this oil makes my lifters not tick, when i put the lucas stuff init they ticked again becasue it thickened up the oil. for guys running burned turbo seals and burning oil id run it if i were you.

while in Chicago, i saw a lot of engines benefit a lot from the lucas.

this one old chevy truck was leaking oil from the oil pan, and through some other seals. i saw that trucks' leaks clear up and not leak.

this one 93 mazda mx-6 also was leaking a lot of oil, about a quart every 200 miles. after the lucas, it was wasting about a quart every 2,000 miles.

ive been wanting to try the lucas some day on my car. i've seen many good things come from it.

If you are using a good synthetic oil and you are not using alot (more than a quart) between 3k oil changes I would not use it. If you have a wore out motor that uses oil and leaks then the lucus would help you out. Oil like mobil 1 has every additive you need and your turbo loves it and thickening the oil with that lucus stuff would loose HP in the engine for the oil pump having to work harder, and the engine will stay cleaner with just the mobil 1. If you have a lifter tick for god sakes just buy the updated lifters and do it right insted of puting a bandaid on it by puting thicker oil in. You also have to look at or engines run hot so you have to look at what happens to this product in my aplication when it gets to hot? From my expereance nothing runs cleaner than mobil 1 at hot turbo engine temps.
