having knocking/ticking issue just like this car here on youtube. i coudln't pull mine up. (sorry). i though mine were the lifter's too. starts up fine.

first off...
right after by bs belt snap and strip, timing was off,, re adjust timing with same timing belt and new bs belt... now i got this knocking noise.... yesterday i put the gunk out engine cleaner in then change oil with 3 quart of 10w-30 mobile 1 full syn. with one bottle of lucas oil stabilizer and i was hoping it'll go away but it did not. i have no clue now....MAD....please help...

Gee, is it possible that because timing was completely thrown off that I could have bent the valves and now they are knocking against the valve seat at an angle? Or maybe the valve is completely broken off and each knock is the valve doing the shake in the combustion chamber?

i will pull valve cover off this weekend and see...never pulled one out before and not sure what to check for or know what's in bad condition...for this being, if i were in need of taking the head off, it will even be more difficult.

I'd say if you crank that engine any more your going to be doing more then replacing the head. I wouldn't have even revved it sounding like that. Are you positive you corrected the timing problem? I'd also pull hte valve cover to see if the rockers, and all are in order.

what should i check for when taking the valve cover off? anything will be nice...thanks..

shoot, this is my DD to work and back home. i will have to drive it.. i have no choice. cant loose my job!!!!LOL
i will check the rockers. those are the ones holding down the lifters right? what else should i check for when open?

Sounds like valves or lifters pull the head i deffinately wouldnt drive it like that , probably gonna do more damage

do i really need a head job....my compression is pretty good i think..
i got 170, 160, 160, 160 for compression test...everything inside should still be good right? think i should replae to 3g lifters to see.

Well, those are good numbers, but obviously something is wrong if you're getting that much noise. Have you taken off your valve cover? Heck, you might want to check your lower timing cover. I've seen a few get really loud if they aren't on right. You can get lifters at Autozone if that's what it is, but personally I'd order them through partsdinosaur. Grab each one of your lifters and see if any of them are loose.

will do that when i get my hands on lifters..

My timing belt slipped like two teeth and bent all of the exhaust valves. You might have to have the head rebuilt.

my timig belt did not slip or snap.

how did you come about that... did you have the same problem....did you pull your head out...why you pull it out. i guess you had bad compression test or did you even did a compression test..
if you have similar issue then post here but if not then don't... come on, mine could be way different. idk

Another thing it could be is your valve guides. I replaced my lifters when I had the same noise. What it is is that your valves arent able to be held all the way tight due to the guides being bad. Even with a compression test, you will still get good compression because the air pressure is holding the valves closed. In order to fix this, you will need to pull the head and take it to a machine shop.

As for the lifters, if you do indeed still want to replace them, there is a great step by step on here. Also all the shops I went to had to order them from their vendor which typically took a couple days, and the cheapest place I found was Smyth Automotive at $8 a piece.

yes i found the artical about changing 3g lifters. i just bought 3g revised lifters from parts dinosaur. 16 lifter's for 95.00 after shipping...i'll see how it's going to be like after i put those in... thanks for everyone......i really appreciate everything...

Another thing about the new lifters, it says to hit the button inside with a paperclip? Before I was able to do that, I had to shove a small nail inside to bust out a piece of metal that blocks it off. 3g may be different than the 2g but I had to do it.

yeah. 3g are a little different just by their holes are bigger and perform way better then stock ones... some people mistake them from thinking it's the third gen eclipse's lifter but it's not.. just revised lifters that have bigger holes..but they fit perfectly.. all this is according to dsmer that have 3g lifters...

+2 on lifters. Mine started making a lot of noise. It was time to put in new rod bearings. Once installed and oil pressure was back to spec it silenced them. BUT the 3g revised should do the trick. :D

well what I was talking about was that slightly inside the hole there is a piece of metal that blocks off your way to get to the button on the bottom.

Firstly, your spelling/grammar is horrendous. Please follow the rules and post legibly with correct spelling, sentence structure, and grammar.

Secondly, you say that after your BS belt snapped/shredded your timing was off two teeth. Your timing belt did, in fact, slip. It is likely you have bent valves, as mentioned previously.

Pop off the valve cover and inspect.
Next would be pulling the head. I'm afraid that 3g lifters will not make that sound go away.

Good luck.

well we'll see what after the lifter's are put on... hopefully nothing big...you talk like you know...hopefully the lifter's will prove you wrong....many dsm have these exact noise, and most of them ended up with bad lifter's...according to my research...
