My engine all of a sudden couldnt rev past 3000 so I took out the balance shafts but upon removing the lower timing cover it was noted that the timing marks were off. That may have been the issue from the beginning but I took the shafts out anyhow. I'm now to the point of putting it back together.
I have a 93 TSI AWD so when I went to buy a new oil pump cover they sent me a 4G64 cover so the new timing marks may look a little different. The paint marks are there to just show myself where the belt lined up before. Now in putting it back together I have questions.
-The dowels on the cam pulleys are in the 12 o'clock and the timing marks are lined up so how did the marks down below become so jacked?
-I know that that the oil pump mark doesnt need to line up anymore since the balance shafts are out so can I just proceed with lining up the crank shaft marks and set tension?
-Is the mark that I have highlighted the proper 11 o'clock mark on the oil pump cover?
Thanks for the help...I'm new to DSM timing.
