low idle

I was driving home the other night going pretty fast, and as soon as i got on my road my car started idling really low. The car shakes a lot when i turn the steering wheel and all the interior lights dim. It idles at about 550rpms and fluctuates up to 1000rpms. My boost gauge needle is shaking quite a bit too. I have no idea what is going on here.

charge your battery and check your alternator you can do that when the car is running detach your negative terminal. if the car keeps running that isnt the problem if its dies.. new alternator! What could've happened is mabey while you were driving high RPMS the alternator bearing shot or you have POWER STEERING FLUID on the alternator causeing friction and it will heat up and eventually get toast

Sounds like the alternator. My car idles at about 550rpm's with no problem

Sounds like the altenator. You could also check your spark plugs gap or see if one has fouled. Just a idea my car ran rough until I got new spark plugs and gapped them properly. I believe I gap'd mine at .028 if I remember correctly. I'm still learning myself, good luck.

before u do all of the complicated shit they r telling u to do, why not turn up your idle control screw a lil bit, just grab a flat head and slightly adjust it, see if that does'nt help out, and alternators dont gradually go out its an instant fail, interior lights go out, radio, headlights and so on, but i would check it just to make sure its runnin right.

also check to see if a coupling popped out of place on your ic piping, that could cause rough idle for sure.

replaced alternator and alternator fuse and that didnt help at all. power steering belt started smoking and eventually snapped because the pulley wasnt spinning on the pump. car is really rich at idle and can barley even run. i will adjust the biss but it seems like its not getting air.
