Just did the battery relocation mod which required me to remove the evap system. I hooked it all up and it starts and idles fine, but when slowing down at stop signs the idle drops down to 500rpm sometimes lower, but does not stall out. If I let it sit the idle will slowly go back up to the 800 range.

Here's what I removed:

the big evap canister
both of the valves attached to it
all vacuum lines running to the valve and evap can
capped off the intake pipe port
capped off the "P" port on the IM
removed the T from one of the solenoids, egr I believe, I just routed it straight back into the IMO since I no longer need the T that runs to the evap system
left the evap solenoid plugged in but the vacuum ports open

I don't have a CEL, I wanted to keep the solenoids in tact to avoid that. My car is a 95 TSi if that matters

*UPDATE*

hooked up the evap solenoid ports to a vac source and all is good now.

Hey JDT I recently was doing some work on my 2G after failing a smog due to the EVAP test being over the limit. According to the tech, he didn't know what line he was supposed to be pinching (it's difficult to access), but he said he didn't think it was leaking. In any case, I took this picture of this nipple that had no vacuum hose attached to it. Is yours similar?

I'm thinking I'm missing a vacuum line here, but I'm not entirely sure.
